Boonsin Padklang (Thai: บุญสิน พาดกลาง, RTGS: Bunsin Phatklang; born 22 September 1965)[1] was a Royal Thai Army officer served as the commander of the 2nd Army Area from 2024 to 2025, which covers Northeast Thailand (Isan).[2][3][4]
Early life and education
[edit]Boonsin was born in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province, Thailand, in 1965. His father, a junior police officer, inspired him to pursue a military career. He grew up and received his education in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province, during the time his father was involved in counter-communist operations in the Cold War era.[5]
He attended the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, and Royal Thai Army's Command and General Staff College.[6]
2025 Cambodian–Thai border crisis and 2025 Thai political crisis
[edit]Boonsin's role in the 2025 Cambodian–Thai border crisis was criticized by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on a private phone call with Cambodian Senate President and former Prime Minister Hun Sen.[7][8] The conversation was leaked, leading to criticism of Paethongtarn's leadership. Boonsin later spoke to Paetongtarn and noted “I informed the prime minister that I had no issue with her and that I understood her”.[9]
Following the leak of the phone call, the Bhumjaithai Party announced its withdrawal from the coalition government.[10]
