AJK College of Arts and Science (AJKCAS) is an autonomous college located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, near the Palakkad border. Established in 2007, it is affiliated with Bharathiar University. The college is accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and holds ISO 21001:2018 certification.

History :

AJK College was founded in 2007 by Prof. Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, a researcher in the field of Catering Science and Hotel Management. The institution was established with a focus on providing industry-relevant education.

Founder and Secretary

Prof. Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan serves as the Secretary of AJK Group of Institutions. He is the son of the late Dr. R.S. Lal Mohan, a notable scientist and social activist, and Mrs. Grace Lal Mohan, a former National Board Member of the YWCA, New Delhi. Dr. Ajeet Kumar earned his doctoral degree in Catering Science and Hotel Management from Bharathiar University. Beginning his career as a chef, he transitioned into academia, eventually becoming an Assistant Professor and Head of Department. In 2007, he founded AJK College of Arts and Science and later established AJK College of Nursing in 2022. He currently serves as a Vice-Chancellor Convenor Committee Member of Bharathiar University, appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government. A prolific researcher and academic, Dr. Ajeet Kumar has guided M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, published research papers, and organized various academic events. He is also the President of the Coimbatore Football Association, promoting football in the district. Dr. Ajeet Kumar has received numerous awards from esteemed organizations for his leadership and contributions to education, research, and community service.

Academic Programs

The college also offers research programs, including M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in disciplines such as Computer Science, Commerce, and Catering Science & Hotel Management.

Infrastructure and Facilities

AJK College of Arts and Science has a campus with facilities designed to support academic and extracurricular activities. The college provides a library with books, journals, and digital resources; laboratories for practical training across disciplines; and hostel accommodation for male and female students, including amenities such as air-conditioned rooms, Wi-Fi, and continuous electricity and water supply. Transportation services are available for students from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, providing internet access for students and staff.

In the Nan Mudhalvan Tamil Nadu Rankings, the college was placed first in student placement performance in the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, and Erode, and was ranked fourth in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu government nominates five members to Bharathiar University syndicate- In 2022, the Tamil Nadu government nominated the Chairman of AJK College of Arts and Science to the Bharathiar University Syndicate.

General Health Camp conducted by GKNMH at AJK College Of Arts and Science- A general health camp was organized at AJK College in collaboration with G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNMH), focusing on student wellness and community outreach.

Department of Physical Education organized the National Level- The Department of Physical Education at AJK College regularly organizes national-level tournaments and sports events to promote physical fitness and competitive spirit among students.

1. Times of India – Government nominates five members to Bharathiar University Syndicate (2022)

In June 2022, the Government of Tamil Nadu nominated five members from among the secretaries of self-financing colleges to serve on the Syndicate of Bharathiar University. Among those nominated was Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, Secretary of AJK College of Arts and Science. 3. The New Indian Express – Governor nominates member to Bharathiar University panel (2025)

In July 2025, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, who is also the Chancellor of Bharathiar University, nominated Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan as a member of the selection panel constituted to appoint the university’s Registrar. 4. The Hindu – Heritage Food Training Centre launched (2012)

In October 2012, The Hindu reported the launch of a Heritage Food Training Centre in Coimbatore. The initiative, supported by various educational institutions including AJK College of Arts and Science, was aimed at preserving traditional South Indian food practices and offering training in heritage cuisine.
