Colonel Arthur Frederick Fischer (6 February 1888 - 31 October 1962) was an American forestry researcher and museum director. Born in 1888 in Chicago, Illinois he graduated from Yale College 1911 with a graduate degree in Forestry. After graduating he became the Director of the Bureau of Forestry in the Philippines. His most important work was creating a cinchona tree plantation and used the quinine produced by the trees to treat malaria for both the Philippines and the U.S. Army. He served as a colonel in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1947. After serving in the military he became the director for the San Diego Natural History Museum from 1947 to 1954.

Early life

Father was Joseph Fischer born in Landau 1831 was alone aboard the John Bertram when he immigrated to the US in 1864. Joseph married Arthur's mother, Annie Marie Ehredt, in 1886 and they were 31 years different in age. Arthur's mother might have passed in 1901 in Louisiana. Arthur was born in 1889 and Joseph got him a passport in 1899 before they went on a trip to Germany in 1899 just before his father passed in 1904.
