Aslove or Gigi (born Guillaume Banet; 25 November 1995) is a French songwriter, record producer, mix engineer and musician.[1] He rose to prominence in 2017 with his cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s "Put Your Records On", which received heavy airplay in France and contributed to his reputation for reworking well-known tracks such as "Feel Good Inc". His releases have accumulated more than 200 million streams worldwide.[2]
Beyond his solo career, Aslove writes, produces, and mixes for DJs, singers, and bands across genres. He has collaborated extensively with French DJ Michael Calfan, co-writing and producing multiple singles including "Wild Night" (over 40 million streams), "Body", "Imagining", "Slide", "3,2,1", "Silhouette", "Eighteen", "Fall To Pieces", "Deals With God", "DM ME", and "Going Round Again".[3]
His production credits also include Dutch artist Tomas Ferdinand’s "Airplanes" (over 10 million streams) and French singer Cephaz’s "Toi Tu Pars", which reached the Top 40 most-played titles on French radio and television.[4] He co-wrote and produced English soul singer Stealth’s "So So Young" and collaborated with Korean DJ Raiden on the single "There For You".
Aslove has also created official remixes for major international artists including Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Sia, Jason Derulo, Cheat Codes, Faouzia, John Dahlbäck, Moojo, Son Little, M.I.L.K. and Carla Bruni.
In addition to his solo work, he is a member of the UK-based indie rock duo YES AND MAYBE.[5][6][7] In 2025, he co-wrote and produced K-pop artist Miyeon’s single "Reno" featuring Colde.[8][9]
Biography
[edit]Early life and beginnings
[edit]Originally from Lons-le-Saunier in the Jura department, Aslove began music at the age of five by learning drums.[10] His stage name derives from Jimi Hendrix’s album Axis: Bold as Love, which belonged to his father.[10] He quickly picked up other instruments including guitar, piano, bass and harmonica.[10] In 2008 he discovered Justice, whose sound reminded him of the heavy rock heroes of his childhood, prompting him to buy a second-hand MacBook and start creating electronic music.[1] In middle school he formed a duo with a guitarist friend to emulate Justice using GarageBand, Apple’s free music software.[1]
Aslove discovered DJing at 15 in a nightclub in his home region.[1] After four years as a resident DJ he decided to make it his profession. In April 2014 he joined the UCPA École des DJs in Lyon.[1] In January 2015 he uploaded his first cover to SoundCloud. "Cupid’s Chokehold", a deep-house version of Gym Class Heroes’ song, was quickly picked up by international blogs. He worked with several singers, including Charles-Henry from the TV show Nouvelle Star. With him he covered "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones, but his version of "Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz brought the most exposure.[11] Supported by influential blogs, he grew his online profile while shaping a pop-and-house sound. He also worked with Philippe Krier, another Nouvelle Star alumnus, and sought feedback from Jean Rigo, guitarist of Les Infidèles.[1]
Interested in the Tropical house wave on radio, Aslove prepared material for Amsterdam Dance Event in October 2016. By chance he came across Mia Wray’s cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s "Put Your Records On", whose understated performance convinced him to produce a new version.[12] French stations including Radio FG and Virgin Radio supported the track on air.[13]
Breakthrough
[edit]"Put Your Records On" entered the Top 100 most-played songs on French radio, with heavy rotation on outlets such as Virgin Radio.[13] The official video, released in early June 2017, surpassed 500,000 views on YouTube.[14] In August his official remix of Katy Perry’s "Bon Appétit" further boosted momentum.[15]
In November 2017 he released "So High" featuring Norma Jean Martine.[16] A remix pack followed, supported by DJs including David Guetta and Don Diablo.[17]
Influenced by the success of Bruno Mars, he released "Good Ideas" in 2018, a pop-funk track featuring Danish singer Tim Schou and German rapper Leroy Menace.[18]
After numerous remixes, in 2019 Aslove began releasing one song per month toward his first album. The first single, "Dancing" featuring Dalvin, again presented Aslove as a singer in its video.[19]
Later work
[edit]After two years away and the COVID-19 pandemic, Aslove returned in 2022 with "Get Around", a reinterpretation of a Beach Boys classic pairing a lo-fi vocal and country colours with a tech-house rhythm. The single appears on the EP Hippie House, Vol. 1, released on Helix Records, the label founded by Patrick Moxey.
