David Race (born 19 April 2004) is a British middle-distance runner.[1]
Career
[edit]A member of Gateshead Harriers, Race is coached by John Stephenson.[2] Race was a gold medalist in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships in Jerusalem, Israel alongside Jake Minshull, Sam Lunt and Charlie Carvell.[3][4]
Race placed fourth over 800 metres at the 2024 British Indoor Athletics Championships in February 2024, in Birmingham.[5]
Race placed second over 800 metres to Ben Gardner at both the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Indoor Championships in Sheffield in February 2025,[6] and the 2025 BUCS outdoor championships in Manchester in May.[7] He represented Great Britain at the 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway, and the 2025 Summer World University Games in Bochum, Germany.[8]
Race ran an indoors personal best over 800 metres with 1:47.66 on 31 January 2026, in Glasgow.[9] Race was a finalist over 800 metres at the 2026 British Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 14 February 2026, placing fourth overall.[10]
