First Day On Earth is an upcoming HBO and BBC One television series written by and starring Michaela Coel, who is also co-director alongside Sam Miller. The cast also includes Thandie Newton, Ncuti Gatwa, Danny Sapani and Maxine Peake.
Premise
[edit]A novelist with her life in a rut takes a job on a film in Ghana, the country of her parents and where her estranged father still lives.[1]

Production
[edit]The series is written and executive produced by Michaela Coel, who also leads the cast. Phil Clarke, Roberto Troni also executive produce alongside Jesse Armstrong for Various Artists Limited, as does Jo McClellan for the BBC and Piers Wenger for A24.[2] Coel is also a director on the series with Sam Miller as co-director and executive producer, with Johann Knobel as series producer.[3]
Filming on the series was scheduled to begin in 2025, but had started by early 2026 with Thandiwe Newton, Ncuti Gatwa, Danny Sapani and Maxine Peake added to the cast.[4][5]
