Lydia Alty (born 5th May 2005)[1], known online as Royal Reporter Lydia' is a YouTuber[2], Journalist, and Campaigner from Buckinghamshire[3], in the United Kingdom. She is most known for her accessible videos online which educate viewers about the British Royal Family, as well as online culture. She has garnered over 270,000 YouTube subscribers and more than 100 million views as of 2025. She has been known to make documentaries online about the royal family.[4][5]

Early Life

Alty was born in Hertfordshire in 2005 to her mother, who is a teaching assistant and her father, who is a car salesman. She is the eldest child and has a younger brother called Harry. Before doing YouTube, she used to be an Anti- Bullying ambassador[6] with the Diana Award. She started Royal Reporting as a 14 year old focusing on William, Prince of Wales, Catherine, Princess of Wales and their children Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales (born 2015) and Prince Louis of Wales. The channel, which used to be known as Prince George of Wales News, changed to Royal Reporter Lydia in 2022, just after the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II. Her videos have gained millions of views.

Education

Lydia attended primary school, at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School from 2010 to 2016, before moving up to Chalfonts Community College[7]. She was at the school from year 7 and attended the schools sixth form. She was briefly a student at Royal Holloway [8], but left after a month due to Health reasons, and moved to study Health Science with the Open University[9]. She enrolled at the OU in February 2024 and was briefly a member of their social media team[10]. As well as being a YouTuber, she works part time in Education.

Career

Alty rose to prominence on YouTube in the early 2022's when she covered the Platinum Jubilee. In 2023, she was one of the channels online which covered King Charles III's Coronation at Westminster Abbey. In 2023, her channel reached 100,000 subscribers[11]. Lydia was named many times as the UK's youngest royal journalist[12]. In late 2023, she became a young documentary maker. Her first documentary was a video to mark Prince George's 10th Birthday[13]. Her channel especially gained popularity for teaching her viewers about how the monarchy in the UK works[14], tourism, traditions, as well as debunking common misinformation about the Royals, their finances, and revenue. Lydia has worked with ITN Royal Family Channel on giveaways, as well as featured in GB News[15][16], Daily Mail[17], and OK Magazine[18][19]. Alty also reports on the day to day workings of the royal family. Lydia has attended royal events such as Order of the Garter service.

Campaigning

Alty not only campaigned for better understanding of the royal family, but also campaigns for awareness of Coeliac Disease[20]. She was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 2021, after taking her GCSE exams. She was very ill, with her doctors diagnosing her in November 2021. She has raised over £300 for the charity. She raises awareness by posting about symptoms, effects and her story. Lydia also has Asthma. She also campaigns for mental health too.

Lydia marked International Women's Day in 2024, by publishing a tribute to Inspirational women including Diana Princess of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, calling for 'greater respect for women in public life'.[21]

Business

Lydia is the owner of her own media company Lydia A Entertainment. She was interviewed by Bold Journey Magazine where she discussed the growth of her media company and her philosophy of Kind content. She emphasised the power of online storytelling to make a positive change and reach marginalised voices.[22]
