Manoj Kumar M (born 1987), known by his pen name Manoj Vellanad, is an Indian neurosurgeon, short story writer, and science communicator. He is known for his Malayalam‑language literary works and popular science writings. He currently practices as a full‑time neurosurgeon at Shree Uthradam Thirunal Hospital (SUT Hospital) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Manoj was born in Vellanad, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. He attended Government LPS Changa and Government V&HSS in Vellanad. He earned his MBBS from Government Medical College, Ernakulam. He worked for five years as a junior doctor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Ananthapuri Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. He then pursued postgraduate studies in General surgery (MS) and MCh in Neurosurgery from Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.[1]
Medical career
[edit]He is a consultant neurosurgeon at Shree Uthradam Thirunal Hospital (SUT), Pattom. Alongside clinical duties, he participates in public health outreach through social and traditional media.[2][3][4][5]
Literary career
[edit]Writing as Manoj Vellanad, he is an established voice in modern Malayalam literature, focusing on psychological, social, and scientifically infused narratives.[6] Since 2012, he has maintained the blog Vellanadan Diary publishing stories and popular science articles.[7]
