Comment: Unfortunately there is nothing here which demonstrates notability, in particular WP:NPROF. His citations are decent, but not really outstanding. There appear to be no major awards to help the case, and Teacher of the Year is not one. Administrative positions such as Chair or Dean are not notable. Ldm1954 (talk) 13:41, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Sorin Lerner is a computer scientist. He is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Chair of the Department at the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego. [1] [2] [3] From July 1st, 2020 to June 30th, 2025, he was the chair of the Computer Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego. As department chair, he played a key role in launching a new Artificial Intelligence major at UC San Diego and helped establish the university’s first fully online degree—the online master’s program in data science. During his tenure, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering experienced remarkable growth, hiring 18 new faculty members over four years and becoming the largest Ph.D. and M.S. programs on campus. [4] In the Fall of 2025, Lerner will start as the Dean of the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. [4] [5]
Lerner grew up in Montreal. He studied computer engineering at McGill University. After McGill, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle for graduate studies, graduating with a PhD. At UW, he was advised by Craig Chambers. [6]
His research focuses on Programming Language techniques for various domains, including program verification, security/privacy, and human-computer interaction. He has published around 90 original technical research papers,[7] including distinguished paper awards at ICSE, USENIX, and PLDI. [8] [9] [10] [11] He received the 2018-2019 UC San Diego Computer Science Teacher of the Year Award. [12]
Lerner joined the Computer Science and Engineering faculty of the Jacobs School in January 2006.[3] He was appointed chair of the department in 2020, having previously served as vice chair for graduate education.[1]
