The Arab Collector (Arabic: المقتني العربي) is a digital platform and electronic magazine launched in March 2016. It focuses on Arabic-language content in the fields of numismatics, philately, paper money, medallions, and historical documentation across the Arab world.[1]

Overview and mission

[edit]

The project aims to promote specialized knowledge in Arabic about coin collecting (numismatics), stamp collecting (philately), and related historical artifacts. Some materials are also translated into English. The platform supports researchers and collector clubs across the Arab region.[1]

History

[edit]

The platform was founded by Mazen Mira and Moheb Rizkallah in March 2016. Initially proposed under the name Coins and Stamps, it was renamed to The Arab Collector before the release of its first issue in May 2016. That issue consisted of 23 pages and nine specialized articles.[2]

The magazine was first announced on the Arab Coins and Stamps Forum. New issues have since been released regularly in digital format.

Content and activities

[edit]

Published either biannually or quarterly in PDF format, the magazine prioritizes digital accessibility and reducing paper usage. Topics include:

  • Analysis and classification of coins and metal tokens
  • Research on postal history in the Arab world
  • Studies on counterfeit stamps and coins
  • Documentation of auctions and exhibitions

The magazine featured analytical coverage of events such as The Arab National Exhibition in Jerusalem. Some issues have been shared through academic platforms like Academia.edu.[2]

Recognition and archiving

[edit]

The magazine has gained international attention. Its issues have been:

  • Archived on the Internet Archive[3]
  • Listed in the Numista database for collectors[4]
  • Assigned ISSN 2652-9009 by the ISSN International Centre[5]
  • Preserved by the National Library of Australia’s digital collection[6]

Partnerships and collaborations

[edit]

The Arab Collector collaborates with international and regional institutions, including:

  • American Numismatic Association
  • Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS)
  • Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC)
