VIP Rail
VIP Rail (formally Vidal Street Industrial Park Inc.) is a Canadian rail logistics company headquartered in Sarnia, Ontario. It provides railcar storage, switching, transloading, trucking, warehousing, inspection, and repair services. The company operates three terminals in Ontario and Alberta with a combined storage capacity of more than 3,100 railcars, and it connects directly to Canadian National (CN), Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), and CSX Transportation lines.[1]
History
[edit]Founded in 2012 as a local switching and transload operator in Sarnia’s Chemical Valley, VIP Rail was acquired by Denver-based Alpenglow Rail on 13 July 2017.[2] In September 2019, Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure (CC&L Infrastructure) partnered with Alpenglow Rail to purchase VIP Rail from Stonecourt Capital.[3] On 25 October 2022, the partners expanded westward by acquiring the Alberta Midland Railway Terminal near Edmonton and rebranding it VIP Rail Alberta Midland.[4]
Operations
[edit]VIP Rail operates three facilities in Canada:
Sarnia Terminal
[edit]
The Sarnia site occupies 50 acres at 300 Kenny Street in Sarnia, Ontario. Dual-served by CN and CSX, it offers roughly 950 railcar storage spots and supports switching, transloading of liquids and dry bulk commodities, and on-site warehousing.[5]
Corunna Terminal
[edit]
Located just south of Sarnia in Corunna, Ontario, this terminal sits at the CN/CSX interchange. It provides about 500 storage spots along with multiple transload platforms for hazardous liquids and dry bulk freight.[5]
Alberta Midland Terminal
[edit]
Covering roughly 300 acres in Lamont County, Alberta, the Alberta Midland facility is dual-served by CN and CPKC. It features a unit-train loop track, a cleaning and repair shop, and capacity for more than 1,400 railcars.[6]
Services
[edit]VIP Rail provides:
- Railcar storage-in-transit
- Custom switching
- Transloading between rail and truck (liquids and dry bulk)
- Trucking and on-site warehousing
- Railcar cleaning, inspection, and repair[1]
Ownership
[edit]VIP Rail is jointly owned by Alpenglow Rail and CC&L Infrastructure. Alpenglow manages day-to-day operations, while CC&L provides long-term infrastructure capital.[3]
