The Kebun Baru Single Member Constituency[a] is a single member constituency (SMC) in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. It is managed by Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC). The current Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency is Henry Kwek from the governing People's Action Party (PAP).
History
[edit]Kebun Baru Constituency was carved from the now-defunct Ang Mo Kio Constituency[b] prior to the 1980 general election. It was helmed by Lim Boon Heng from the PAP throughout its first continuous period (11 years) of existence. At the 1988 general election, following the introduction of Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs), the constituency was renamed Kebun Baru Single Member Constituency, in line with the new designation for constituencies with only one MP.[2] It was absorbed into Ang Mo Kio GRC prior to the 1991 general election.
Since 2020
[edit]Kebun Baru SMC was reformed following the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee's report on 13 March 2020.[3] It was carved out of Nee Soon GRC, which it had belonged to as a division since 2015.[4] Henry Kwek, the incumbent PAP MP for the division in Nee Soon GRC, defeated Kumaran Pillai from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) in the SMC with 62.97% of the vote.[5] In the 2025 general election, Kwek won re-election against Tony Tan from the PSP with an improved 68.5% of the vote.[6]
