Cameroon War → Cameroonian War of Independence – Avoids confusion with other wars, including the ongoing Anglophone crisis. Provides more context via the name. - Support I always like more specific names--particularly for conflicts and wars. Agnieszka653 (talk) 15:09, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:CONCISE. There is only one mention of "Cameroonian War of Independence" in Google Books and one in Google Scholar. Kelob2678 (talk) 22:30, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- The name I've proposed is meant to be descriptive rather than the common name. Not many mentions towards "Cameroon war" on google scholar that can be proved to be referring to this war. Pencilceaser123 (talk) 05:01, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Comment: If the title is descriptive, it should be in WP:SENTENCECASE; "Cameroonian war of independence". Katzrockso (talk) 07:21, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
Oppose - This article includes the civil war afterwards, when cameroon was independent. So naming it the war of independence would need to it being split in 2 articles. I think a more appropriate name would be the "Hidden War" (referred to in the article) or the "UPC Rebellion in Cameroon".JJUPLOADS22 (talk) 22:05, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- I dont mind the hidden war, as long as its "Hidden War (Cameroon)" as the term hidden war is used for other wars, alas I dont think that proposal would go through. UPC rebellion in Cameroon is better, but feels like its downplaying it and making it sound like a small insurgency. While its not preferred I would also be fine with "Cameroon War (1955-1964)" as it gets the main issue (confusion) out of the way.
On another note, it probably should be split into two articles, one for the civil war and one for the independence war, alas its probably two small for that currently.Pencilceaser123 (talk) 22:16, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Kelob2678@Agnieszka653 your thoughts on these? Pencilceaser123 (talk) 22:18, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think splitting the page into two article is a good idea if they are distinct events which it sounds like they are--a civil war versus a war of independence. And after looking them both up--this also would make sense since the war of Independence was fought against the French but the civil conflict was between the newly established Cameroonian government and the UPC rebels. It also would probably make it easier for the lay person to grasp, if they were two separate articles. Agnieszka653 (talk) 23:05, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- The page also seems to be almost entirely about the independence war, so this would would be renamed to "war of independence" or whatever I suppose. Only reason to keep them together is french troops seemingly were involved in the civil war (according to the infobox) and fought the same rebels. So its in a way one war, but also two. Pencilceaser123 (talk) 23:09, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- This article needs to be expanded from french wikipedia with the civil war parts. Though the information about the civil war is mostly unsourced in the French article. JJUPLOADS22 (talk) 17:24, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Disagree. If the material is unsourced it is of little if any use to us. Andrewa (talk) 06:35, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
