Requested move 1 June 2025

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: no consensus. While there is a majority by number of votes supporting the move, there is also a very clear opposition. Reasonable minds seem to disagree on whether page views support a primary topic finding. As it has been open a month, the only place I can see this going is no consensus. ECBECB (disambiguation)ECB (disambiguation)European Central Bank is a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the acronym "ECB". Although there's some spike from England and Wales Cricket Board, it does not influence the status of EU central bank as a primary redirect due to its long time significance. • Oppose There is indeed ambiguity with England and Wales Cricket Board. No primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 18:06, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support unless if anyone know about the cricket world, "ECB" primarily means the "Eurozone central bank". So, i guess we can retarget "ECB" to central bank article. 182.1.231.158 (talk) 08:15, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support primary topic based on page views and WikiNav/clickstream. Adumbrativus (talk) 03:00, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per 162 etc. Pageviews for the bank exceed the cricket board but not to a degree that indicates this is the overwhelming WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. And the bank was formed in 1999, the cricket board in 1997, so again no obvious difference in long-term significance. Tassedethe (talk) 21:39, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Supoort per Google Ngrams. The longetivity of the cricket board (founded in 1997) and central bank (founded in 1999) does not influence a factor that the central bank is a primary topic. Additionally, for cricket world, "ECB" may be refer to cricket board, but for general audience, the same acronym refers to European Central Bank. 2001:448A:10E4:30D5:B8D6:D5BD:58AC:60A (talk) 00:46, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – Adumbrativus's WikiNav evidence is conclusive. 70% of readers go from ECB to the European Central Bank, while only 15% go from ECB to the Cricket Board. A similar proportion go to Block cipher mode of operation. This shows that the Central Bank is the clear primary topic readers are looking for. Toadspike [Talk] 07:48, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support because overall, people might want to know about such a politically and economically important entity more than sports, let alone a board (and per Toadspike) EricXXue (talk) 21:16, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - considering a regional cricket organization equal to one of the most important banks to ever exist, just because the organization is from Britain, is the most Wikipedia thing to have ever happened. If this were a regional sports organization from Romania or Thailand or Colombia, a disambiguation page wouldn't even have been considered. Red Slash 04:59, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose ... but that's not what this is about. It isn't a competition between the national governing body of the home of cricket and a regional bank abbreviated to "ECB" in the native language of none of its members (see what I did there?). It's about whether one use of an abbreviation is the primary topic, by usage and/or long-term significance. The bar for this should be very high, and in my opinion is not met here. • Oppose. There are currently nineteen meanings of ECB listed at the DAB, several of them of above average significance. European Central Bank is in my opinion the best contender for being primary topic (assuming there is one), but that's not enough... it needs to be better than all of the others taken together. That's a very high bar with eighteen others to consider, and I don't think it clears it. Andrewa (talk) 10:36, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No clear primary topic per Andrewa and Shhhnotsoloud. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:43, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
