Alaska Baby is a 2024 Italian medium-length documentary film.

The film follows singer-songwriter Cesare Cremonini on a journey of artistic and personal rebirth,[2] conceived as a geographical and inner journey where the theme of light—chosen as a symbol of hope and renewal—permeates the entire narrative.

Synopsis

[edit]

The documentary opens during a moment of deep creative crisis for Cremonini, following the success of a tour that culminated in a historic concert in Imola attended by over 70000 people.[3] He describes this time as "writer's block" or "an ego overload." He thus embarks on a journey seeking renewal.[4]

After 45 days in the fog of [[Emilia, he departs from Antigua in the Caribbean, accompanied by his friend and director Giorgio John Squarcia, who had previously documented a similar transformative journey in Argentina during Cremonini’s time with the band Lùnapop.

The journey takes them through the United States: from Florida to Nashville, the heart of country music, and on to New Orleans and Memphis, cities rich in blues heritage. A visit to the graves of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash Cash takes on symbolic meaning, reinforcing the connection between American music history and the artist’s rebirth.[5]

The journey ends in Alaska, where Cremonini, facing the majesty of nature and a frozen lake over 8100 km from his homeland,[6] finds new inspiration.
