- making obscure connections
- making corrections (with supporting evidence)
- aiming for compendious coverage (often streamlining)
- fussing over terminology
I'm also a bit of a historian — as for example seen in my edits to the pages for the Reporter-Herald, Genlyte Group, Professional Lighting Designers' Association (PLDA), and Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). There is an overlap here with terminology, evident in:
- My creation of the pages for beam angle and list of file formats for luminaire radiometric data.
- My contribution of the luminous intensity distribution section of the floodlight page, providing unique background on NEMA Types and associated concepts.
- My overhaul of the list of light sources page.
- My failed attempt to change the title of the electric light article to light bulb (further explained in my user essay) and my proposed alternative.
I'm not an expert Wikipedia editor, but want to share something others might find helpful: To avoid becoming discouraged and/or inappropriately discouraging others, I think it's best to embrace the crowd-sourced nature of Wikipedia. Don't try to curate a single page to your personal liking. Instead, try to leave bread crumbs for others to follow -- bits of supported information that will hopefully prompt other editors to contribute and harmonize associated content.
