He’s potentially going to be a problem. Ignored your message and I just left him a second one Rikster2 (talk) 19:57, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rikster2: Yeah, WP:CIVIL says editors should be responsive to good-faith questions. I asked them if they at least see our messages. If it continues, we can go to WP:ANI and at least get a block until they're aware of the talk page (AGF that they're new) and willing to discuss. —Bagumba (talk) 02:19, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) I assisted with some reverts on obviously contested changes. Bagumba, have you reverted or expressed an opinion on the content that makes you WP:INVOLVED? I'm pessimistic that the general-interest ANI crowd has the appetite to sanction someone over basketball style edits. Left guide (talk) 09:48, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You just need to show there's a dispute and they've continued with the edits anyways. Nobody needs to know basketball, per se. —Bagumba (talk) 13:08, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I beg to differ. Left guide (talk) 04:46, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Left guide: There's a lot of disparate IP ranges in that one. Not all admins know how to do range blocks also, plus they might worry about collateral damage and not know a good edit from a bad one. I just narrowed down this IP range for an NBA roster template vandal. Can't say I have the same sense for non-NBA rosters. Sometimes, it might just end up being Whac-a-Mole, with little else that can be done. —Bagumba (talk) 11:40, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rikster2: So much for going out of our way to avoid templates. I gave them one of those "u may be blocked ones". —Bagumba (talk) 09:21, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
He is still at it. Rikster2 (talk) 17:09, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Surely a block now? Still at it [1]. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:22, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And another one. They have not engaged in the WT:NBA project discussion even though they received a direct invitation on their talk page, and have instead continued pushing the same disputed style change. Left guide (talk) 07:41, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DaHuzyBru: I recuse myself from blocking per WP:INVOLVED. Thanks for starting the ANI. Some diffs of the contested edits and continued disruption may help uninvolved admins. I can't get to it myself right now. —Bagumba (talk) 02:23, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Old logos

[edit]

So if a team changes names (but still have the same Wikipedia article), then the old logo gets deleted? See New Orleans Pelicans, where there doesn't appear be a Hornets logo? There has to be commentary about the old logo specifically or it fails non-fair use? See Florida Bobcats, where the Miami Hooters logo was deleted but the Sacramento Attack logo is still there because it "does not meet the threshold of originality" apparently.

I've thought about this in the past, but I was wondering what your thoughts are? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:19, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiOriginal-9: Try this. —Bagumba (talk) 17:02, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that Bagumba. I guess we'll have to wait for our ancestors to upload the Hornets and Hooters logos someday when they become public domain. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:15, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think the Hornets logo would count, given that there is section on the team's logos (New_Orleans_Pelicans#Logos_and_uniforms) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:16, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiOriginal-9 At least the current prose doesn't seem to meet ... the historical logo itself is described in the context of critical commentary about that historical logo. Admittedly, I don't have much experience in this area. —Bagumba (talk) 00:40, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

NBA Finals mass move?

[edit]

Hi again, so I'm wondering if the individual championship series articles for 1950–1985 should be moved from "Finals" to "World Championship Series". I checked a few random article talk pages that turned out empty, indicating no past history of RMs, and couldn't find anything in the WT:NBA archives. What is the sourcing from that era like regarding the names? And which policies and guidelines would be in play here? Also curious as to your general stance on the merits of such moves, if you're open to sharing. Left guide (talk) 06:37, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Newspapers.com hits.
  • 1950: "NBA Finals" = 230, "NBA World Championship Series" = 0 hits
  • 1965: "NBA Finals" = 1,035 "NBA World Championship Series" = 0 hits
  • 1975: "NBA Finals" = 3,001 "NBA World Championship Series" = 0 hits
  • 1985: "NBA Finals" = 6,845, "NBA World Championship Series" = 683

Here is an interesting article from 1985 about the naming issue. "The issue is the NBA championship series. The problem is monumental: It doesn't have a name." Also, the 1950 results above have some false positives. The results are showing some "NBA's final" and "NBA Final" ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 08:00, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, SB I isn't titled 1st AFL-NFL World Championship Game.—Bagumba (talk) 03:09, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

COI concern

[edit]

So about that WT:NFL draft notification, do you smell COI? And if so, which warning would be the most appropriate to give? I searched "Light Media" and came across some marketing companies, which also makes me wonder whether the username contravenes WP:ISU. cc @Assadzadeh: Left guide (talk) 06:48, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Left guide If you look at the edit history of that page, you'll notice that it has been submitted for review three times, and each time it was declined, but the editor kept removing the notice and submitted it again for review. Unfortunately, I did not notice this until after I had wasted time reviewing the article and providing feedback. The first and second declines were by the same person, who indicated that the article sounds like a commercial. Assadzadeh (talk) 07:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
At least one of the sources that I removed falls under Template:Citation by contributor Assadzadeh (talk) 07:18, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Left guide: If you suspect, Template:Welcome-COI seems the most "welcoming". Their user name is singular "editor", so doesn't blatantly imply shared use. —Bagumba (talk) 10:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Akron Hammer

[edit]

As you may be aware as a participant there, WP:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 June 30#The akron hammer closed with consensus to retarget The akron hammerThe akron hammer to List of nicknames in basketball#J. As noted there, The Akron HammerThe Akron Hammer is fully protected from creation meaning only an admin can do it. Would you be willing to create it with the same target as the lowercase version? If so, perhaps link the RfD in the edit summary. Left guide (talk) 16:02, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Left guide: WP:SALT says it's preferable that you contact the protecting admin, Tedder in this case. I'll punt to them, as there was previously Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Akron Hammer, and "List of nicknames in basketball" existed at the time, but it wasn't redirected there. —Bagumba (talk) 16:32, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll happily unsalt it, you can set the redirect. I'd be inclined to page-protect it after that if there are more attempts to turn it into an article, but probably less likely now. tedder (talk) 17:49, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Tedder! Left guide (talk) 17:53, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of IP height vandalism. Thanks Rikster2 (talk) 20:01, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Done. 2 wks semi. —Bagumba (talk) 04:03, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

NBA Infobox

[edit]

Hey Bagumba, just thought I’d make you aware that the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award is specifically listed on the exclusion list at WP:NBAEXCLUDE, but is still included at Template:Infobox basketball biography. GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 02:46, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@GOAT Bones231012: You can be bold and update it at Template:Infobox basketball biography/doc. —Bagumba (talk) 03:10, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
