about your edit

[edit]

This edit to add {{excerpt|Gaza genocide denial}} resulted in this broken short-form reference. Please fix.

missing <ref>s

[edit]

Your edits today of Herero and Nama genocide resulted in ref names being used without being defined. Fortunately, other users including Cdjp1 and AnomieBOT came along and restored the definitions of the ref names, and that is good fortune. Meanwhile I spent about 15 minutes researching the problem, but AnomieBOT had already solved it. Every time you edit, you should preview before you save, and you should look for warnings at the top, as well as reference errors anywhere on the page, and if you've introduced any problems, you should fix them before saving. Also, it's good that you sometimes leave clear edit summaries like "contrary to this map, it happened at a variety of locations", but sometimes you leave no edit summary at all. Every time you edit, you should leave a summary saying what you did. Cheers! —Anomalocaris (talk) 20:36, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the point of wasting a lot of time trying to move references around, when it's more efficient to wait for AnomieBot to run before checking back to see if there's an ongoing issue. I know how AnomieBot works and it always fixes the refs for me. (t · c) buIdhe 20:51, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it is a good idea to leave an article broken on the expectation that a bot will fix it. The bot might not fix it, and meanwhile other editors may spend time they could spend improving Wikipedia in other ways, instead fixing your broken article. There are a lot of articles out there with undefined ref names that AnomieBot did not fix. I came to Herero and Nama genocide in the first place to fix a misnested {{lang|de| ... <p> ...}} ... </p>, and my editing practice is that if I edit an article for any reason, I clean up all the errors I can find, including red Wikipedia warnings. It's not nice to the Wikipedia community to leave red warnings in an article, even if they will probably be fixed soon. —Anomalocaris (talk) 21:21, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Added some tags to Eric Gilbertson (climber)

[edit]

Hello Buidhe,

I took some time to improve the Gilbertson article. However, I have a massive headache and cannot continue the cleanup presently. I added some inline tags to the survey section that I would appreciate if you would address. Thank you! Revolving Doormat (talk) 01:03, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ExplorersWeb reliability on Climbers project

[edit]

Hey @Buidhe,

How long is customary to wait for the response of anyone else on the project (particularly the editor who added it as unreliable) before you and I can be considered the consensus? 7 days? 30 days? I'm seeing conflicting standards on acceptable waiting periods for contesting. I am somewhat against just using the RSN thread because it wasn't posted to the climbing project talk page and the editor who added it as an unreliable source wasn't pinged. That is atop the fact that there were very few participants in the discussion. While no one disagreed with you, there are only a couple of comments and zero votes about its reliability. Mind you I don't think anyone is running around deprecating ExplorersWeb from Wikipedia articles, so this isn't pressing, there is an editor who may use it to continue to discount a notable subject and their notable activities. Revolving Doormat (talk) 13:32, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You or I don't need a consensus to make changes, unless there is a formal RFC closure or wide-ranging effects on the projects that merits a more formal discussion and explicit consensus. I would suggest that it would be best to be WP:BEBOLD and not waste time discussing further, unless anyone shows up with evidence to the contrary. (t · c) buIdhe 16:04, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've made the edit with a fairly strong reasoning as to why. If any issues crop up, I think there is clear onus on whomever disagrees to make a serious case as to why it's unreliable. I feel there isn't any evidence to indicate it's not reliable. Revolving Doormat (talk) 16:36, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna try to level with you here, given that I really believe that template should remain since it involves criminal-related articles:

I would have to imagine that your screen resolution is different than mine. What I think I might try to do, and feel free to confirm, is I'm going to perform an edit where I put the next two pictures on the article into a left align situation. Would you be able to confirm if that fixes the issue? Steel1943 (talk) 02:19, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Steel1943 Your recent edit causes image sandwiching, which is against the MOS criteria that Good Articles are supposed to follow. On the other hand, I'm not aware of any rule that requires the use of a sidebar just because an article is included in them. Personally I prefer footer templates for navigation. (t · c) buIdhe 04:08, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit surprised you think it doesn't go beyond the TOC. For me, it goes roughly to the "Impact of colonialism and imperialism" header. (t · c) buIdhe 04:12, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! This point right here will leave me to revert my edits for now. I'm not trying to cause issues that may result in a GA getting delisted. Steel1943 (talk) 05:43, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
