A long time ago there was an editor that wrote a Featured Article for $500 and participated in the debate about paid editing on that basis. I believe he was a former marine or something and had written a lot on maritime subjects as a volunteer. He talked about how it was hard to justify writing FA pages for free to his family, when he could be supporting their livelihood. I tried to remember who it was by looking through pages at WikiProject Companies that were FA rated sometime over the last few years. I thought you may remember who it was since he was from the military Wikiproject-type background.CorporateM (Talk) 20:48, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1^st and run until January 29^th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

• The total number of reviews completed for the month.
• The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Hey Buster,

The problem is that this artist doesn't really have so many articles where the interviewer or her herself talks about real historic things about the band. I am really just doing this because there are so many bands out there that are so much less notable out there than Y La Bamba and I couldn't believe that she didn't have a wikipedia page yet. how did those bands get their articles submitted on wikipedia? i suppose that is not important and i'm sorry but it is very frustrating searching for things that aren't really out there on the web. also, I'm wondering that if i tried to quote a reference from a physically printed publication somewhere how that would be moderated possibly? also, so many of the artists on that label tender loving empire have no wikipedia article but they all tour internationally and are widely considered pretty prominent bands in many music circles. if Y La Bamba doesn't have 3 major reviews from huge publications and it is not acceptable for any wikipedia article to be approved without this then why does this musician have a wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Smith_(American_musician)  ?

It seems that the latter band got by with just quoting their releases. is it really necessary to have 3 references of major reviews like from rolling stone or something to be considered a band anymore worthy of being included on wikipedia? i suppose i am just missing something huge. I would really appreciate any basic info for a numbskull like me to make it easier on submitting articles on lesser known bands. for example i really want to write one on Lincoln from the early 90s DC hardcore scene that no one knows about but there is no way that they had 3 major independent reliable or recent sources write about them. nonetheless, i believe they deserve to be acknowledged for existing at the time as they toured extensively across the states during the mid 90s and had somewhat of a similar rapport as minor threat or black flag or some other similar band. thank you for the review busterD. please take it easy on my green beginner foolish self. I appreciate all the help you have given so far!

On 19 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Boris Townsend, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that the English physicist and television technology developer Boris Townsend (pictured) described colour television as a "judicious combination of human imperfections and clever technical solutions"? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Hi Buster,

Got your message and understand the need for monitoring for COI. The edits that I made to my wiki page contain no editorial content or opinion, only updates to specific jobs in Television and Theatre work that have verified, reliable sources for the information listed. Nothing that could be even remotely influenced by a Conflict of Interest. If this is still a sticking point, to whom can I turn to update the page? (It has been nearly three years since it was updated.) Is there someone I can contact to point out the lack of updates and have them do the work? I am, as you have guessed, a neophyte with regards to Wikipedia.

Hi there! It's a privilege to help you. Please don't take offense at my posting the warning. I feel compelled to draw such a line. I didn't know who you were until Carol started the page some years ago and I showed her how to maintain an encyclopedic tone and find sources. Most of the work she did. I just helped a bit with formatting. Since those days I've accidentally become a fan and have monitored your page; I happened to see you in "All the Way" at the Neil Simon but didn't know you were in it until looking at the Playbill before the performance. Tickled to hear you were touring in "Fun Home"; it's an awesome show and more people should see it. Such a role! As a Wikipedian I very much appreciate your hands off approach to the page. I have no doubt it's tempting to edit. I'd suggest that since I watch the page, you might add any reliable sources you find about yourself on the talk page. Unconnected editors like myself who watch your page can take those sources and continue to update. If you have any suggestions about how best to organize the material, those suggestions might also be posted on the talk page. I was wondering if you were aware of any recordings of "Tantalus" that might be available. To me that's a legendary theater production which might deserve its own Wikipedia page, given the sourcing. A suggestion: you've been around in big productions long enough to be asked to do interviews about your career, even if by a college newspaper or local radio station. Please link to those if you have access. It would be nice to change the page text from a mere listing of works into a narrative. New Year Backlog Drive results:

• We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

• ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
• Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
• updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
