ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections - Call for Candidates

[edit]

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • November 25 – December 1 - Call for candidates
  • December 4–8 - Discussion phase
  • December 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase

[edit]

The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 4–8 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase.

On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Ongoing POV push at Mosquito Coast by editor with agenda

[edit]

Hi Ed, I hope you're doing well. You left a notice at my talk page about the arrival of the editor Special:Contributions/Nhtpaf to editing the Mosquito Coast. This editor seems to be getting ever more aggressive about changing the name of the article to "Mosquitia", which is the very same fixation held by the now-blocked sockpuppet "Whoforwho" (one of the sockmaster's many, as you know). He's recently added an etymology of the term "Mosquitia" with this edit, content which he's restored. I've just left a comment on the talk page of the article remarking this fact, and quoted Whoforwho on the same page:

As regarding the name, the term "Mosquitia" appears to be even more popular than that of "Kingdom of Mosquitia" or "Mosquito Kingdom". The name "Mosquitia" first appeared on a 1787 map by William Faden titled: (Mosquitia or the Mosquito Shore with the eastern part of Yucatan as far as the 20th degree of north latitude); this can also be confirmed with Google Books Ngram Viewer. So in my opinion, and as the most commond practices on Wikipedia. The article could be renamed to "Mosquitia"; being the most commonly used name for this historical country, and start the description of the page/article by mentioning the name that was used officially; The Kingdom of Mosquitia.

This sounds almost exactly like the arguments being made right now by Nhtpaf on the talk page. Other editors are opposing his new requested move of the article to the title "Mosquitia". I feel fairly confident that the editor is likely the same as the Nicaraguan editor. The editor FromCzech has opened a sock puppet investigation in which he notes that now Nhtpaf is uploading images to Wikimedia Commons in the same pattern as the sock BTGOG12 under investigation, which doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.

My question to you, Ed, is just what and how much evidence is needed here to get a check user on this guy? I don't like to think that I may be spending my time and energy engaging with someone who quite possibly, it seems to me, shouldn't even be editing here in the first place. This timesink has been going on for years, and I'm really getting tired of it. Carlstak (talk) 21:37, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, since I was pinged, I just want to clarify that it wasn't me who started the SPI, I just added my observations and evidence. But SPI didn't move anywhere and still doesn't. That's why I reported the incident based on the increasing activity of Nhtpaf, but despite imho clear evidence the incident was just archived before any consequences for Nhtpaf were drawn. Which I don't understand and don't know how to reverse... FromCzech (talk) 05:23, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Nhtpaf has been blocked, thank the universe. I had noticed that the quality of his writing as a non-native English speaker had improved, and sure enough, as that discussion at ANI demonstrated, he was using LLMs to reply in proper English to talk pages and at ANI. More than likely he'll lay low for a while and then be back with the same sort of edits and his endless crusade to impose his political point of view on the "Mosquito Coast" article and other Nicaragua-related articles. Administrator Elections - Voting Phase

[edit]

The voting phase of the December 2025 administrator elections has started and will continue until Dec 15 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.
