Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Mud cookie—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. - Hello, Materialscientist. Can you answer why it did not appear constructive? Jpogba14 (talk) 10:23, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page List of dances has an edit summary that appears to be inadequate, inaccurate, or inappropriate. The summaries are helpful to people browsing an article's history, so it is important that you use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did. Feel free to use the sandbox to make test edits. Furthermore, your edit has been reverted due to issues it introduced to the layout and formatting of the article. Refer to the how-to guide at Help:Section and Wikipedia's Wikipedia:Manual of Style (especially the parts regarding section organization and section headings) for more information about how to utilize section heading syntax on Wikipedia. - Hey, thanks for the welcome. My changes were mostly form based and added 2 pictures. Before it was a block of text without form. Please check the changes.

- Hi there, let me break my full thoughts into 3 separate points to make sure I'm communicating in a clear/hopefully useful way! Since I will reference it below several times, click this to see the diff for your edit: Special:Diff/1295459326 (an explanation of what this type of page is can be found at Help:Diff).
- Your edit summary reads "minor edits". A more helpful edit summary would include what exactly your edit changed, and why you made the change(s). What you typed here in reply to me – "My changes were mostly form based and added 2 pictures. Before it was a block of text without form." – is much more descriptive and helpful for other editors.
- The block of text at the beginning of the article (usually called the "lead" of the article – see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section for more info) certainly needed to be addressed, and I appreciate you making changes that attempted to give it a more readable format. There were actually a few reasons I removed that text entirely (see the diff for my removal and my edit summary at Special:Diff/1295595308):
- The text contained no references to reliable sources – see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- The text was not necessarily helpful information for that specific article – it might be more appropriate, for example, at List of dance styles, which is already linked in the lead.
- Related to your additions specifically, the markup you added (i.e. the
====you added on either side of the dance genre/style names, and especially the single=you added around "This is the main list of dances.") was not appropriate for displaying the text in the format you desired. Again, Help:Section provides some detail about using the section heading markup; Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility#Headings also explains why= ; :markup must be used only where appropriate, to ensure pages are accessible to all users no matter the device, assistive technology, etc. they use to access Wikipedia.
- The addition of images could definitely improve the article. However, it's important to add images (1) with the proper markup, (2) in a way that doesn't disrupt or break the existing/desired layout and format of the article text, and (3) that follow the consensus opinion among editors as to which images are used and where in the article they are placed, typically done via discussion on the article's talk page (i.e. Talk:List of dances).
- I appreciate your reply to my note, and I hope I don't sound like I am being a scold. The best way to learn about Wikipedia is doing exactly what you're doing – making edits, and replying to other editors when they notify you of problems they encountered with or questions they have about your changes.
- I'm not always online and able to reply to questions, so I definitely recommend posting at the Teahouse (linked above on your talk page, or just click Wikipedia:Teahouse) if you have problems/questions/concerns in the future. Experienced editors (many who are much more experienced than me!) keep an eye on that page and try to offer prompt assistance.
- Best, Peloneous (talk) 22:01, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

Dance in Haiti
[edit]Please note that pages in your personal sandbox, such as User:Jpogba14/Dance in Haiti, are not allowed to be filed in categories per WP:USERNOCAT. Categories are only for finished articles in mainspace, not for sandbox pages that you're working on. The page has already had to be removed from categories multiple times, so do not readd it to categories again. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 14:16, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, gotcha. Ill take note and adjust. Thank you Jpogba14 (talk) 17:48, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
