Surgoinsville, TN
[edit]Though you might find the person added to the list of persons from Surgoinsville distasteful, both fame and infamy make one notable. Wikipedia is not the Surgoinsville Chamber of Commerce or Welcome Wagon. The fact is that a nationally recognized infamous criminal resides there; there is no BLP or other violation in mentioning this fact; his residency in the general area was mentioned during his television appearance; and his criminal case and personal saga are still ongoing and of note. I'm not sure why you deleted the mention from the article, but I do think discussion and consensus would have been appropriate. Incidentally, McPhetridge is not, that I am aware, a Wikipedia editor, nor was there anything derogatory posted about him other than of course his convictions in court arising from his TCaP appearance. - First off, apologies for not responding in a timely fashion, as I was busy the past several months, preventing me from editing at all. I'll just mention that, if he was notable in a WP-like fashion, he would have his own article; that is normally what is placed under the "Notable people" section of an article. Many towns have people convicted of heinous crimes such as the above - that doesn't mean that person has achieved the level of notability sufficient to warrant inclusion in the article. --MuZemike 14:18, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
