TFA
[edit]Thank you today for Leroy Chollet, on his centenary, introduced: "I first read about Leroy Chollet in a local newspaper that mentioned him as an African American basketball player who played in the Whites-only inaugural NBA Finals because he did not tell anybody that he was Black. That sounded a bit off, so I googled him but didn't find much. The Wikipedia article was a stub. As I read about the guy, I expanded his article." - Successfully so, thank you! Enjoy your second TFA day!

- Thank you! - On Ravel's birthday, we also think of a conductor and five more composers ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:55, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- Today I could have written five stories off the main page, and chose Sofia Gubaidulina. I find the TFA also interesting, and two DYK, and a birthday OTD. How about you? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:25, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- You're prolific. I think I would not often be wrong if I just assume any composer article on here will have your edits in the history. You're asking what on the main page do I see as interesting or like a good story? If so, it's not exactly like that for me, but thanks all the same, Rjjiii (talk) 02:14, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'm prolific, and wrote some articles about composers, but some I don't touch, they are in the firm hands of users who made them FA before I even was here ;) (like Ravel) - I didn't ask about your interests, just gave you mine. - Today, 300 years of Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, BWV 1! We sang works for (mostly) double choir by Pachelbel, Johann Christoph Bach, Kuhnau/Bach, Gounod and Rheinberger! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:30, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

DYK for Flying saucer
[edit]On 6 March 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Flying saucer, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a National Guard pilot died while pursuing a reported flying saucer in 1948? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Flying saucer. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Flying saucer), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Portal
[edit]Senior, I want to make a portal named Tibet, but have a fear it may be deleted or not appropriate in Wikipedia, can you tell me it will be accepted or not in Wikipedia
Thanks for attention 獅眠洞 (talk) 16:13, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
- @獅眠洞, Portal:Tibet was previously deleted at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Tibet in part for being unmaintained. If do you create the portal, I would not expect to get many folks to step up and help maintain it, which would make it vulnerable to deletion. If you want to personally maintain it, I think it's unlikely to be deleted while you are maintaining it. If you're asking for my personal opinion, it would probably be more worthwhile to work on the Tibet article and any Tibet articles that interest you. Also, you'd probably get a more informed response if you ask at Portal talk:Asia or approached one of the editors who maintain Portal:Asia. Good luck, Rjjiii (talk) 22:08, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Satoshi Osaki
[edit]Did you see my request for a relist at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Satoshi Osaki? GNG was not met there, and even the keep vote that came after my request acknowledged that we only had one suitable source and not multiple and was making an IAR case. I think this one remained undetermined, and it was certainly not a keep. I wouldn't have objected to a no consensus close, but I would have much rather seen a relist to see if the matter could have been put beyond doubt. Would you be willing to revisit this please? Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 07:52, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]I'm trying to find someone who feels confident to upload a photo from an old newspaper and I think I've seen you do it before. I want to publish my rewrite and really want to include a photo. Are you able to do that for me? I started to look at the WMC instructions and backed out as it was asking me questions I didn't have a clue what to say. The article is Jotham Johnson and the photo is here [https://www.newspapers.com/article/bryan-college-station-eagle-jotham-johns/171312401/] with all the specifics that you would need. I'm still asking around, so if it gets done before you get to it, I still would appreciate you having looked into it. Thanks, Susan Sgerbic (talk) 20:52, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- And if you could pretty please show me how to do it I would be grateful! Sgerbic (talk) 00:36, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

- @Sgerbic Hey, thanks for reaching out. I probably won't get much free time until the weekend. As far as how to do it, do you mean making the image file or uploading it the commons? Rjjiii (talk) 01:10, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Uploading it to commons, I can't figure it out. Sgerbic (talk) 03:11, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Sgerbic I just edit conflicted with you. The commons is a nightmare in terms of user interface. Rjjiii (talk) 03:12, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know if this was your hang up, but for whatever reason, the upload wizard refused to go forward with the public domain template, so I checked the "I don't know option" and fixed it after the file was up. Rjjiii (talk) 03:16, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- When I rule the world, the first thing to go will be whatever WMC is. For something that deals with visuals, it's all text instructions. Just nuts! I upload my own work all the time, but when it isn't my work or its something unusual, my brain goes blank ... blanker than usual that is.Sgerbic (talk) 04:57, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

- @Sgerbic hey, I lied, I just uploaded it at File:Jotham Johnson.jpg. As far as the process to get an image file from public domain content:
- I just do a screenshot (with the Print Screen key),
- paste that in an image editing program, and
- crop out extra bits. Pinta and Paint.net both have pretty straightforward "crop to selection" tools so you can just select an area from the screenshot.
- For the license, do
{{PD-US-expired|country=US}}pre-1930. For 1930 to 1977 search the newspaper (not just the page) for a copyright notice and then do {{PD-US-no notice}}. Rjjiii (talk) 03:12, 1 May 2025 (UTC)- Awesome! But as for everything after 3. it was just gobbly-gook language. I can do 1, 2, 3 just fine but the rest is just frighting. I'll give these instructions to someone in my group who might be able to explain. But THANK YOU! And Jotham thanks you ... even though he is dead. Sgerbic (talk) 03:22, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Rjjiii,
I see from your User talk page that you have closed deletion discussions before but I only encountered your closures today. I just wanted to encourage you to thoroughly review Wikipedia:Non-admin closure so you have a good idea of which discussions are appropriate for non-admin closures and which ones are better left for an admin to handle. You do not want to take on close calls or your closure might be challenged at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Don't hesitate to come to me or another regular closer if any questions arise for you about relisting or regular closures. Thank you for your help! Liz Read! Talk! 01:56, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out, @Liz. Do you see one of the recent closures as a close call? I try to reply rather than close to make it easier for the next person that comes along when the consensus is not completely clear. Also, thanks for the offer for if I run into questions, Rjjiii (talk) 02:48, 20 July 2025 (UTC)

Juan Gallastegui
[edit]I am shocked by the result of the deletion of Mr Gallastegui's article. It is pretty clear he does not meet the notability criteria for musicians, yet it was kept.
- 1. Multiple independent publications – ✅ yes
- 2. Chart success – ❌ no recordings by Mr Gallastegui
- 3. Record certification – ❌ no recordings by Mr Gallastegui
- 4. Tour coverage – ❌ no tours by Mr Gallastegui
- 5. Multiple albums on notable labels – ❌ no recordings by Mr Gallastegui
- 6. Ensemble or membership – ❌ only amateur-level orchestras listed and workshops
- 7. Representative of a style or scene – ❌ no
- 8. Major music awards – ❌ none
- 9. Competition wins – ❌ none
- 10. Notable media work – ❌ none
- 11. National radio/TV rotation – ❌ Music placed in rotation by a major national network.
- 12. Featured broadcast subject – ❌ no TV appearances.
This entry should not exist. The entries are about minor merits. Not every musician with a mention on a paper deserves an article on Wikipedia. Thank you.Theclassicalmusicwriter (talk) 13:05, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- You can request other editors to check the closure at Wikipedia:Deletion review. In this case, the other 5 editors !voted to keep the article unanimously, and point one above would support their position. Do you have a mentor (some editors are assigned them) or just an editor that you would trust? If so, I'd suggest reaching out to them, Rjjiii (talk) 19:57, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Rjjiii, I have been following the discussion, I agree with your close, but I think it is possible that a detailed Wikipedia:Source assessment might question notability. If Theclassicalmusicwriter did that, would you be prepared to consider reopening the nomination?
- Theclassicalmusicwriter, I would advise against Deletion review, as I think that the close was correct based on the responses to the nomination, see WP:DRVPURPOSE. TSventon (talk) 17:32, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- @TSventon, Thanks for reaching out. Yes, I would be okay with that. I may have some days in the next week or so where I am not available, so feel free to reopen on my behalf if I don't respond. If they plan to stick around, I think it would be a better idea to renominate it for deletion in 6 months or so. That would give everyone time to move on from the interpersonal conflicts around the recent nomination and so then the discussion could focus more on the subject of the article. Right now, I imagine there is a good chance that few people would participate even after adding the source assessment table, but a much higher chance on a renomination that begins with source assessment rather than the dispute. - @Headbomb: I seem to have accidentally wasted your time here. Typically, I copy text directly between Wikipedias, even leaving broken templates, so that the attribution is as clear as possible. For example, I am working on Draft:Qasr Bshir now, and previously started Kitab-ı Bahriye in a similar way.
- Some of the documentation about draft space talks about how editors never stumble onto other editors' drafts, so I was surprised to see Draft:Minguela reviewed and edited when it is (as you noticed) not at all ready.
- In the future, is there a template, like {{Under construction}}, that you would recommend adding to a draft when it is still in rough shape? I know there is always a backlog at NPP, and I don't want to pile onto it by accident. Rjjiii (talk) 15:04, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that I've templated you. I was just doing maintenance in Category:CS1 errors: invisible characters and stumbled upon the untranslated draft, which is 99%+ of the time some confused noob submission. I didn't realize it was an intentional work-in-progress. I suppose the best way to mark it would be with a {{Being translated}}. {{Under construction}} also works I suppose, though it's much less clear, since all drafts are presumed in constructions. Survey
[edit]Hi and thanks for your recent participation in AfD. I would like to hear your thoughts about the process. Please check this survey if you are willing to respond.Czarking0 (talk) 02:21, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Czarking0, good luck on the survey but I will likely pass. I don't want to answer in a way that comes across like I am calling out another editor or that discourages anybody from participation in controversial AfDs. Rjjiii (talk) 02:34, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! As a follow up is your pass related to this specific article or you would not like to answer these types of questions for any AFD? Czarking0 (talk) 02:38, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- It's both. The DePaço article is a tense subject, and survey questions ask about specific other editors. It can be hard to get nuance across in a text-only survey. As an example, Anomie (who I'll ping since I'm talking about them) directly disagreed with me. So that would be my factual and objective answer to question 7. However, it could be easy to misread that answer as some kind of negative criticism. In fact, my view is that I appreciate everyone participating in a difficult discussion, and I appreciated Anomie taking the time to read and respond thoughtfully. 'Snam' is not a word. I think it should be 'suam'. Polygnotus (talk) 19:03, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Polygnotus Thank you for catching that. Not a native Latin speaker, I probably just accepted whatever OCR I used at the time. Does the updated quote look correct? This should be the exact page of the quote. Rjjiii (talk) 19:23, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, I can't access that source but it looks good. But my Latin teacher never liked me, and I never gave them a reason to. Suam means his/her/its so I've seen that word before.

- Two, right? - We spoke about a 300-years-old Bach Cantata in March, - today's main page offers one 299 years old ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:02, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- 300 years ago: another one, Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild, BWV 79, on the occasion for which it was written, Reformation Day - it's not only Halloween today. You are invited to the peer reviews for another candidate. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
DYK for Qasr Bshir
[edit]On 28 October 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Qasr Bshir, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that archaeologists studying Qasr Bshir used smoke signals, mirrors, and torches to test how messages traveled between Roman frontier forts? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Qasr Bshir. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Qasr Bshir), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

- I really appreciate all the kind words! And thanks for the Monobook tip; I now have new buttons in all the menus. The shirt's not that bad; I once received a Freddy Krueger shirt (with the red and green stripes) as a Christmas gift. Also, I have a discord account for Wikipedia but never use it; I'll go ahead and connect that for when I run into questions. I'll read through the manual too.

A baton for you!
[edit]| You did it! You mustered up the courage and took the leap, and you are now the English Wikipedia's newest administrator.
This bronze chariot fitting was once part of a great machine that represented the most advanced technology of its time, just as we are all small but important parts of the machinery of this encyclopedia, the greatest repository of knowledge humanity has ever created. If you ever feel overwhelmed, remember that we are all here, ready to answer your questions, fix your mistakes, and stand by your side when the going gets tough. And, finally, you should be immensely proud of what you have accomplished, both this week and over your illustrious Wikipedia career. We win theeeeese!!! - Thanks! And it looks like I will get to hand this off soon, Rjjiii (talk) 04:13, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Haven't been watching Rfa lately, so didn't even know you were up for it, or I would've put in a good word, but looks like you didn't need my help, so congrats! Mathglot (talk) 08:32, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- As Toadspike proved a few weeks ago, the wielder of the baton gets a super-power for an unspecified while: you can see the entire pedia afresh. Like suddenly having blinders removed. You are going to see things the rest of us take for granted. Your fresh eyes bring a fresh and innocent insight which you should feel free to share when your spidey senses are triggered. Don't stop being highly motivated and competent, but you're mopping because we trust your judgement. Let that wash over you for a time. BusterD (talk) 19:14, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Don't wish any kind of superpower on me right now. I've been having a string of bad luck and am sure to get one of those cursed ones. Like, where you get super strength but it's only because you have gorilla arms and then you can never find any clothing or jewelry that fits. Or where you can shoot laser beams out of your throat but they burn up all of your teeth.
- I appreciate the thoughts though and the faith you have in me. I'll take the advice into consideration minus superpowers. Rjjiii (talk) 20:41, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

Regarding This Thriving Land
[edit]Thank you for the proofreading. I've revised the tone of the section you mentioned. Could you please let me know if the overall tone is now all right? Thanks a lot. EleniXDD※Talk 11:25, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hello EleniXDD, when I was moving a prep set to queue for the main page, I bumped this article down to set 4 which is still on track to reach the main page around November 10. I won't have time to do an in-depth review on the article, but if you need more feedback, you might ask at WP:NPOVN or WT:DYK. Rjjiii (talk) 20:31, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for telling me where to find more feedback EleniXDD※Talk 02:00, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
