Question from Nigel Stanworth (14:03, 24 November 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I am looking to update the page for Chris Thompson (English Musician), I am a very occasional user of Wikipedia and I think the info to be changed may not be classed as a minor change.

The info to be updated is as follows: a) Date of Birth (correct year is 1947) b) Place of Birth (should be Hertford, Hertfordshire)

I've attempted to do this but it has been reverted by MaterialScientist

In terms of citation, the request has come direct from the musician himself who I interviewed last Friday. You can see my attribution as follows in terms of relationship, I am currently working on a 50th anniversary re-issue of one of the albums.

Record Company: https://www.eastcentralone.com/about-us/

Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/artist/1623548-Nigel-Stanworth?srsltid=AfmBOoq1mI-2nOw8a4NG0kYdpYwFMWh7EoZeukdkibl325G__0tEzKdY I am listed for liner notes against many of the releases

Any thoughts on how to get this information updated? Thanks --Nigel Stanworth (talk) 14:03, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Nigel Stanworth: Hello, the main issue as I read it here is that you didn’t provide any source when you made these changes to the article, which is about a living person, something that is treated very carefully here; see WP:BLP for more information. I suggest that you start a thread on the article’s talk page where you explain this and add a citation next time you edit the article. Also, there is something called the 3RR rule here, which states that one should never make more than three repeated edits within 24 hours to an article if you get reverted, as this could lead to being blocked. Shellwood (talk) 15:34, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shellwood,
Thanks for the advice, I assume my attribution will count as the citation given the only correct source is the artist himself? I did mention it was from the artist but probably no reason why I should be viewed a valid source.
Nigel Nigel Stanworth (talk) 16:34, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Nigel Stanworth: You will need a reliable source verifying the birth date and place per the BLP (Biographies of living persons) policy. However, I can see that the current source used does not mention him being born in Ashford, Kent, nor does it state his birth year, so this should be removed and left simply as being born in the United Kingdom(or England per crossfirepublications) and raised in New Zealand. The article should also be placed in the “Year of birth missing (living people)” category. Removing Ashford, Kent, and adding the [[Category:Year of birth missing (living people)]] at the bottom can be done at any time by anyone. Moving forward from this, you should try to find some source that verifies his birth date and birthplace. Until then, the unverified material can be removed. Use the talk page to explain your changes first, so you don’t find yourself accused of edit-warring or violating the 3RR rule, good luck! Shellwood (talk) 18:06, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. I am a newbie to Wikipedia though I have used it as a search tool for many years and have donated many times, yet I only recently joined as an editor. I have no idea what I am doing. Today, I am trying to read an article's infor but the txt is in another language. The entire page the menu the entered txt. How do I change this into a language I can read ie to English? --ApriellasWorld (talk) 18:42, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ApriellasWorld: Hi, at the top of each article, there is a bar where you can search for different language versions of an article, though these may not always exist. When browsing the English Wikipedia, the articles are written only in English. Shellwood (talk) 19:10, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi! I have no specific questions to ask, but I thought I would reach out and introduce myself. My current objective on Wikipedia is to polish all the Arab League summit wiki pages (that I have access to), and to add the ones that are missing from the site. I'm looking forward to becoming more involved here! --Gurkaanid (talk) 10:01, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Visitdetroitlakes (16:38, 19 December 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I'm the Tourism Director in Detroit Lakes MN with the Tourism Bureau, located in the Chamber of Commerce building. I'd like to update some Detroit Lakes info that is no longer correct, please. Thanks, Cleone --Visitdetroitlakes (talk) 16:38, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Visitdetroitlakes: Hi, first, declare your conflict of interest on your user page. This link contains information on how this is done. When you have a conflict of interest, it is recommended that you make an edit request to the article you wish to change. Finally, there is a problem with your username, as it goes against our policies here; see WP:NAMEGUIDE. This must be changed to something like “Cleone at VisitDetroitLakes”, since accounts cannot be shared or represent an organization or company. Shellwood (talk) 16:56, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Samanwoy (08:05, 23 December 2025)

[edit]

I am not able to put picture on a particular article actually 'image' option is not visible. --Samanwoy (talk) 08:05, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Samanwoy: If you want to place the image in an infobox, insert the file in the | image = field by writing the file name, for example: yourpicturesname.jpg. If you instead wish to insert the image directly into an article, simply add [[File:yourpicturesname.jpg|thumb|some appropriate text]]. Shellwood (talk) 11:56, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
