Administrators' newsletter – December 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2025).

- Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
- Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). T382958
- The December 2025 administrator elections are scheduled from Nov 25 – Dec 15.
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in December 2025, with over 1,000 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Invitation to reach a consensus on Runit Debbarma
[edit]Hi, I am getting in touch with you as I see you have added categories to this article, and also you are an administrator. I have been adding maintenance tags to this article Runit Debbarma earlier, which were removed by the author of the article without any appropriate changes/addition. Despite of proposed deletion, these tags were once again removed by the author of the article without any explanation. Currently, the article is in AFD-related discussion, but these tags were removed too, despite several warnings to the author. If you can give it a quick look at it, we probably can come to a consensus. Thank you for your time.Khorang 08:35, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Red, White, and Whole.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Red, White, and Whole.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:49, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
article about Kioomars Musayyebi
[edit]Hi Significa liberdade,
I am looking for someone I can contact, and picked you because you edited some technical details (I think) in the article in question.
The article is about the musician Kioomars Musayyebi, and has been submitted to the English Wikipedia quite a while ago already. However, it was declined for publication: according to reviewers due to a lack of “reliable sources”. This is not plausible to me.
The article is currently backed by 53 references, including secondary sources such as:
hr2.de presse.wdr.de iranjournal.org schallplattenkritik.de cineuropa.org labiennale.org operabase.com college-de-france.fr lma-nrw.de elbphilharmonie.de tonhalle.de concertgebouworkest.nl thecoronettheatre.com
Please advise.
Looking forward to a quick resolution of this issue.
Thank you and kind regards
Uli Eberhardt Ulrich Eberhardt (talk) 14:16, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Ulrich Eberhardt! Looking through the article, I think SafariScribe likely denied publication because the article relies heavily on primary sources, which do not establish notability. I would recommend looking through the current sourcing and seeing how many are completely independent of the subject. If the article has at least three independent sources, I would suggest re-submitting for review. Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:17, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Thank you for the reply! There are at least the 13 independent sources I cited above, so I will resubmit the article now. I hope it works this time.
- Best

Minimum Speciesbox parameters
[edit]Hi, although if you omit the parameters to specify the taxon in a {{Speciesbox}}, it will be picked up from the page title, not all the features, including checks, then work. Please always include either |taxon= or |genus=+|species=. Also note that the English Wikipedia doesn't capitalize English names of organisms. Carry on the good work! Peter coxhead (talk) 17:05, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input, Peter coxhead! I'll make sure to check the speciesbox inputs moving forward. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:18, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi and template question
[edit]nice running into you in the queue tonight. Between us we cleared out G11 in both directions. If you don't mind, what's the template you use when letting folks know you declined their speedy tagging? I loved the wording. Star Mississippi 03:02, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Good to see you, too! The template I use is my own. :) I have several customized templates, and I just keep the tab open while I'm going through CSDs or unblocks. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 03:04, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Super helpful, thanks. I've only recently come back to patrolling both, and they're also a helpful refresher for some of the nuances of each. Star Mississippi 04:24, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

Lowering Privileges to Henry Stickmin Collection Article
[edit]Hello! I hope you are fairing well today. I would like to be able to publish an article on the Henry Stickmin Collection. I have poured hours into writing the article, and I have just now finished, and realized that it was gated from newer users. I would appreciate it if you could lower the access needed to this, and allow me to publish it. If you would like to see what I have written, you can see it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Crafts97/sandbox_24. Thank you! Have a good day. Crafts97 (talk) 02:08, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there! I have moved your article-in-progress to Draft:The Henry Stickmin Collection. I suggest submitting the draft for review by an experienced editor, who can move it to main space. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 15:13, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- Alright! Sounds great! Glad to have been able to contribute to Wikipedia. Have a good day! Crafts97 (talk) 15:30, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Clarification regarding Draft:Atomesus deletion
[edit]Hello, I hope you are doing well. I’m writing regarding the deletion of Draft:Atomesus, which was removed under G5 (created by a banned or blocked user – AmanSharma111). I would like to respectfully clarify that I am not connected in any way to Aman Sharma / AmanSharma111, nor am I attempting to recreate content on behalf of any blocked or banned editor. I am an independent editor and the draft I intend to create is original, rewritten from scratch, and will fully comply with Wikipedia’s policies, including notability, neutrality, reliable sourcing, and conflict-of-interest guidelines. Before proceeding further, I wanted to check with you to ensure there is no misunderstanding and to ask for guidance on how I can move forward correctly without violating Wikipedia policies. If you require any verification or additional clarification from my side, I’m happy to provide it. Thank you for your time and for the work you do to maintain Wikipedia’s standards. Kind regards, - Starbabie1 (talk) 08:05, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Re: Andrew Finkelstein article - addressing your concerns
[edit]Hello Significa liberdade,
Thank you for your feedback on the Andrew Finkelstein article. I apologize for the confusion - I did not mean to publish the article to mainspace. I should have clicked "Submit the draft for review!" as you instructed, rather than publishing it directly.
Since receiving your message, I have made substantial improvements to address both of your concerns:
1. More sources to establish notability: I've added 9 inline citations from reliable sources including:
- Daily Freeman and Hudson Valley One (for the $31 million verdict)
- PR Newswire (for NYSTLA presidency)
- Brooklyn Law School (for teaching/recognition)
- New York State Trial Lawyers Association website
- Multiple law firm biography pages with consistent information
2. Promotional tone: I've completely rewritten the article to use neutral, encyclopedic language:
- Removed subjective phrases like "distinguished," "acclaimed," and "achieved"
- Changed "He is known for" to factual "a personal injury law firm based in New York"
- Removed the Community involvement section (insufficiently sourced)
- Used neutral phrasing: "was elected as," "represented a plaintiff," "appeared on"
- Changed section titles to be more neutral ("Professional roles" → "Professional activities")
I've also fixed the category issues by replacing non-existent categories with established ones.
If the article needs to be moved back to draft space for proper review, I completely understand and will not republish it myself. I'm ready to work through the proper AfC review process.
Thank you for your patience and guidance. V. (talk) 18:09, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Wikibrains! It appears that BusterD has deleted this article because it sounded like an advertisement and there was no claim to significance. Looking at the sources provided on the article, as well as getting a sense of the sources you're naming in this message, I'm inclined to agree that Andrew Finkelstein likely doesn't meet our notability guidelines for people. Can you name three reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of Finkelstein? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:26, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'd want to include in this discussion Praxidicae (who actually applied the A7 and G11 tags). I'm trusted to examine speedy tags for their validity, not deciding whether I "dislike" or "disapprove" the page, before I take administrative action (like deletion). Praxidicae has more edits than Significa liberdade and myself combined. I have extensive experience trusting both of those editors to get most calls right. G11 suggests this page benefits the subject more than the pedia, and A7 suggests this subject is a run-of-the-mill professional. There's nothing personal in my view. Wikipedia is not a mere listing of members of the bar. Come up with much stronger sources, and we're having quite a different discussion. BusterD (talk) 17:42, 24 December 2025 (UTC)

Failed Verification tags
[edit]Hello! I think it was you that added some Failed Verification links to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eryngium_glomeratum I'm not sure where the issue for them was as the links work for me. Perhaps you can check them again? Is there a specific protocol for my handling such tagging if it happens? iNaturalist name Ball Eryngo is fair enough - I assumed it might be in a physical text somewhere but I'll remove that meanwhile. Cheers! Meteorquake (talk) 17:09, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Also for the citation needed, they are given as the refs for the description. Meteorquake (talk) 17:12, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Can you explain this? Do you mean the references at the end of the "Description" section are intended for the full section, not just that paragraph? If this is the case, you'll want to add the citation to the end of each paragraph to clarify. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:58, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, and thanks for reaching out! I opened the links in a different browser, where I found they do verify the information. Not sure why my primary browser (Brave) opens to a different page. As such, I've removed those tags. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:57, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
[edit]Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Apple in China book citation in 2025 in literature
[edit]Hi there, could you double check the citation you have added for the Apple in China book citation in the 2025 in literature list? Thanks. PhilKnight (talk) 18:37, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, PhilKnight! Working in VE, and for some reason, it kept adding that reference. I thought I caught them all, but obviously, I didn't. Good catch! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:43, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
