- I came here because I noticed that the topic ban warning you placed on the user's talk page was likewise deleted. I assume that too formally isn't a problem, though it does make it more difficult for other editors and administrators to see the history or track a pattern of behavior. cease editing any and all articles (including subpages, talk pages, etc.) related to Israel and Palestine, broadly construed, even if it is not directly apparent to be associated with the conflict at hand.
However, the user appears to continue testing the boundary, which reeks of WP:GAME. Updates for editors
- From January, edit filters can be set to automatically suppress their details such as rules and list of attempted edits and actions. This will help oversighters use edit filters to prevent doxxing or other suppressible material. [1]
- The next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 12 January 2026 because of the end of year holidays. Thank you to all of the translators, and people who submitted content or feedback, this year.
View all 16 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the crash that occurred when tapping "First Steps" in the Wikipedia Android Year in Review has now been fixed, and the feature opens as expected. [2]
Updates for technical contributors
- Interface elements such as diffs and categories generated by MediaWiki used to have the attribute
data-mw="interface"to distinguish from wiki content. The attribute has been replaced withdata-mw-interface="", to avoid potential conflicts with otherdata-mwattributes, which are generated by Parsoid. [3]
There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Meetings and events
- The Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026 will take place on 13-14 March 2026 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Applications just opened mid-December and will close in mid-January or earlier if capacity is reached. With space for approximately 100 participants, early application is encouraged.

BLP/MEDRS interaction on Imane Khelif
[edit]Hello Valereee. As 331dot suggested in their review of the block you applied to me on Imane Khelif (article and talk page), in August 2024 I started this discussion at WT:MEDRS. The consensus there was that MEDRS does not generally apply to individual diagnoses as such: it is intended primarily for biomedical knowledge, rather than for reporting that a particular individual has a condition. For individuals, WP:BLP, WP:RS and WP:DUE apply, which means that speculation reported by reliable non-medical sources (e.g. mainstream news) may be covered, provided it is of encyclopedic relevance (not WP:BLPGOSSIP), widely covered by reliable sources and clearly attributed.
Based on this, I believe that the block you applied to me for this comment was not warranted. In September 2024, you agreed to convert it into a voluntary editing restriction based on my commitment not to edit Imane Khelif (article and t/p) again. As I intended to ask you to lift the voluntary editing restriction, I recently reviewed some discussions about Khelif and related articles and noticed that similar speculative comments by other editors were later treated by you as WP:BLP violations (this comment by Vegan416 triggered this block) and that you have warned editors that speculation about Khelif's sex characteristics should not be raised on talk pages absent voluntary disclosure by her or a formal diagnosis (here). I also noticed that editors active on Khelif frequently ping you when they feel that someone's "speculation" violates your interpretation of WP:BLPTALK (22 August 2024, 11 September 2025, 13 October 2025). Other comments of yours show that you interpret WP:BLPTALK as preventing editors from mentioning such hypotheses on talk pages unless there's been voluntary disclosure by her or a MEDRS-level medical confirmation (e.g. [4][5]).
I don't agree with this interpretation, as it may discourage editors from mentioning hypotheses that are discussed not only in mainstream journalism but also in academic literature ([6][7][8][9][10]). So I'd like to start a discussion at WP:AN on this, but before doing so, I'd like to make sure that I'm not overlooking anything relevant or misunderstanding your position. - @Valereee I concur with Gitz on the principles of the matter. However unlike Gitz I'm not interested in writing further on the topic of Imane Khelif. So whatever will be the results of this discussion I would ask to have the same deal that Gitz currently has, i.e. converting the partial block on the Imane Khelif article to an indefinite voluntary editing restriction on the Imane Khelif article and topic. I ask this since the partial block prevents me from accessing the wikipedia Library, which hinders me in editing on other topics, and even on Wikipedia in other languages.
