Happy Holidays
[edit]

@WikiOriginal-9, Primefac, Jonesey95, Hike395, Gonnym, Jessicapierce, GreenLipstickLesbian, Joy, JMF, Phuzion, and Johnuniq: Rather then spamming a bunch of people's talk pages, I figured I would post this here with a shoutout to the editors I have worked with the most the past few months. I wish each of you a very happy holiday season!
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Hogmanay, Festivus or your hemisphere's Solstice, this is a special time of year for almost everyone! I hope you are able to enjoy some time with friends and family, eat lots of good food and generally be happy and merry. Thanks for all the help with various projects and tasks this year. I look forward to working with each of you more in the new year! -- Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:47, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you for the kind words, and happy holidays to you as well, Zack!
GreenLipstickLesbian💌🧸 23:32, 14 December 2025 (UTC) - Thanks, and happy holidays all! Johnuniq (talk) 01:56, 15 December 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you, likewise :D --Joy (talk) 12:29, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
replacement of map in Anderson Mill, Austin, Texas
[edit]Before I revert your recent edit to Anderson Mill, Austin, Texas, please explain to me how that edit actually improves that article. TerraFrost (talk) 11:59, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- Your edit history shows that you've been active since I made this post and have none-the-less chosen not to respond to it, so I've gone ahead and reverted your edit to the following:
- - Anderson Mill, Austin, Texas
- - Brentwood, Austin, Texas
- - Crestview, Austin, Texas
- Maybe if I better understood your goal in removing those maps we could find some common ground. TerraFrost (talk) 20:26, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- @TerraFrost: sorry, was NOT ignoring you. Just too many balls in the air right now. The goal I was trying to achieve is to get away from using maplink in an infobox as those should really be using Infobox Mapframe which is built-in. In the cases you identified, the boundary information is stored in an uncommon way (not in OpenStreet or on WikiData) so my edits were actually detrimental. I agree with your reverts. Appreciate you taking the time to message me, asumming good faith and not just rage reverting. If you find any others like this, you have my blessing (not that you need it) to revert them. -- Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:18, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- So I guess to convert it to use Infobox Mapframe I can add a link to the geojson map file on commons to the wikidata entry under property P3896 (geoshape). Sadly, I have no idea how to do that 😔 Like I guess that's prob how The Domain (Austin, Texas) is getting it's data but idk 🤷♂️. I've been adding stuff using
maplink-road|from=Crestview Neighborhood (Austin, Texas).map'cause that just makes more sense to me than the whole wikidata approach. - I'll ask on Wikipedia talk:Village pump (technical).
- Thank you for the feedback! Hope you have a great Christmas! TerraFrost (talk) 03:21, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
- Been working with mapframes for months and they still confuse me... So much to learn. If you figure out the process for converting
.mapto wikidata, PLEASE let me know! Merry xmas! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:24, 25 December 2025 (UTC)- I've made some progress! So you can get to the wikidata entry from the Tools menu of the wikipedia article and then clicking on "Wikidata item" at the bottom. Then do Ctrl + F and look for "add statement". In the property text input of the newly added div block, type in "geoshape". A new text input will appear to the right, after you do that. You can copy / paste the
fromvalue frommaplink-roadto that text input but you'll need to prepend it withData:. After doing that I can click on the revision of yours that I reverted and I can now see the polygon, whereas before, I could not. The one thing I don't like about it, right now, is that the location pin is appearing on the map as well. Like I feel like the polygon eliminates the need for the location pin. - idk if that helps you or not. I can do screenshots or make a vid if that'd help! (altho if I were to make a vid or screenshots idk where the best place to post them would be; that kind of content isn't suitable for inclusion in a wikipedia article and that's the criteria by which I judge whether or not I upload something to commons..) TerraFrost (talk) 03:35, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
- That is AWESOME! Set
|mapframe-marker=noneand the marker shall vanish! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:38, 25 December 2025 (UTC)- Got it - thanks! I'll try to update the other two pages as time permits and then I'll go review the other maps that I've added to other infoboxes (I think Navajo Nation and Zion National Park are my best ones), and see what I can do for those! Thanks! TerraFrost (talk) 03:42, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
- Keep up the great work!

JWB
[edit]Hi! Quick question: how do you run a script in JWB along with regex? TGPX (talk) 00:42, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry! Been all over the place lately.... What sort of a script are you trying to run? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:45, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Zackmann08: The script I'm referring to is User:Zackmann08/scripts/indent.
- I noticed that in your latest edits you've been running this kind of indentation/cleanup using JWB. TGPX (talk) 01:52, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Fyi no need to ping me when you're posting my talk page... lol. Sadly there is no easy way to implement this. I had to basically write my own version of JWB for my own use. It is HIGHLY customized and while you are free to read the source code it is not something I can implement for you as it has a lot of tricks and quirks that would be too complicated to explain. Removal of the Nationality parameter in Userboxes
[edit]The Taichirō Motoe article is another example where the nationality parameter would not only be useful, but is necessary. A Wikipedia user looking only at the infobox would think that he is American, yet he's Japanese, as stated in the text. Why are we creating an infobox that blatantly misleads our readers? We must ask again what was wrong with the policy that lasted (successfully) for years ... use the nationality parameter only when it avoids confusion? Truthanado (talk) 20:34, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- My talk page is not the place for this discussion. This has been debated at MULTIPLE RFCs. Your issue with the consensus that has been reached, not with me. If you want to change it, raise the issue on the talk page of the relevant Infobox (not sure what you mean by "Userboxes"?). Even if I were to 100% agree with you and reverse my position on this issue, that wouldn't matter as there is a MUCH broader consensus to consider (see the multiple previous RFCs). So once again, if you have an issue, raise it on the template talk page, not on my talk page. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:56, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
Indentation back and forth
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hey Zackmann. Happy NY. Changing indentation to your custom setting is of little value unless VisualEditor is set to do exactly the same thing. Even the slightest change of a parameter value in VE will revert your edits, as in Special:Diff/1330544792. I think you should better stop doing that before everyone agrees what the formatting should be. I'm quite sure I used the VE setting for the settlement infobox when my bot updated Split, Croatia, but Special:Diff/1330540132 overwrites that, and any new VE edit will overwrite both (as someone, apparently, reset the formatting in the template's templatedata). Ponor (talk) 02:02, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- That'd be Special:Diff/1324377906 by @DiaoBaoHuaJian. Ponor (talk) 02:07, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Not entirely sure what your point is? You think I should stop cleaning up Infoboxes because you don't like the way I'm doing it? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 02:31, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Your cosmetic changes (indentation) are not going to stay. Any VisualEditor edit to the infobox will undo them. So what's the point of going back and forth? The indentation itself is not a problem, I've done that myself, but in accordance with what VisualEditor is set to do. Ponor (talk) 03:07, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- The "cosmetic change" are a byproduct of other changes that are being made as part of the infobox cleanup.... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:09, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Can you please read carefully what I said. The indentation will be reversed the first time someone edits the infobox in VisualEditor; that's something other editors have no control of. You could sync the templatedata 'format' parameter, though I'd be careful not to add too much whitespace between the param name and the equal sign - what you see as a good indentation on desktop, becomes a mess on mobile. Ponor (talk) 03:20, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- I read what you said and disagree. I also have significantly more experience than you and don't appreciate your lecturing tone. If you are interested in my explanation, I'm happy to provide it. But thus far you are lecturing a FAR more experienced editor about things you clearly don't really understand... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:23, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Please familiarize yourself with comment on content, not on the contributor. You do not know me , you don't know what I can do, you don't know what I understand. Familiarize yourself with foundation:UCoC as well before calling other editors morons. This is a collaborative community, and whatever you do can and should be questioned. Ponor (talk) 03:55, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Absolutely NEVER called you a moron so please don't put words in my mouth. In any case, this discussion is not going anywhere so I will bid you good day sir. If you see an issue with my editing you are welcome to file an ANI against me. Take care. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:24, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

- What is your point actually? People doesn't understand what you are saying. I set the block format is to reduce unnecessary spacing for further usage. The edit summary is already clear. For a major infobox should use block format to reduce the unnecessary spacing. Although the spacing is intend to make align for equal signs, but actually the results is neglecting how many of spacing users added. The thing that lead to effect is the parameter used.
