This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Basketball. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Basketball|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Basketball. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

• Keep. While, as with all other titles in the Category:Women's national under-16 basketball teams category, this title was primarily based on primary/NOTSTATS sources, my own WP:BEFORE identified (and I have added) a number of independent sources which deal with the subject in at least some depth. Not a "slam dunk" (no pun intended) but outright deletion doesn't seem an appropriate (or consistent) outcome here. (At the very least there should perhaps be some discussion on AtDs. Non-notable football player. Never played in the NFL, run of the mill college football career, can't find any prominent sources satisfying GNG. (Previous AfD is on a different Joey Hawkins as a coach who, ironically, i found slightly more sourcing on) Wizardman 22:51, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  And WP:HEY (read it now: Joey Hawkins). Agree with Wizardman that it's the first article from WikiOriginal-9 that makes it: "Heritage ex gives Knight a hand: Senior Joey Hawkins entered the ranks of the two-sport college athletes when he joined Bob Knight's basketball team after the football season" in Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In the end, although he was one of the two tallest players in the history of the Indiana Colts, as pointed out by The Indianapolis Star in 2005, it's really the bigger story about his track record as a multi-sport athlete who played not one, not two, but THREE sports – he was a pitcher at Colleyville Heritage High School in Texas, as pictured here in the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram in 1999 – that seals his notability. There is more coverage cited in the article now, but specifically I would also point to the article section about him in The Austin American-Statesman and the paragraphs about how he landed at the Colts, undrafted, in The Indianapolis Star.
