This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- This program is not a promotional piece or a non-notable subject. It is a state affiliate of U.S. Youth Soccer and has produced multiple players who went on to compete at the professional and international level—including Olympic medalists like Casey Krueger. The article is being actively revised to remove any non-neutral language and to include coverage from independent and reliable sources.
- If you feel parts of the article were too close to promotional or lacked sufficient citations, that’s a fair concern—but it’s something that can be improved through editing rather than deletion. Milicz (talk) 21:22, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

Keepand keep on improving. Nominator is right that the article could be improved, so I have tagged the article accordingly with the issues they have identified (more and better references needed, needs to be revised to be more neutral in tone, likely contains original research). I have also added {{citation needed}} tags throughout, and added a reference and confirmed that there is other significant coverage that could be added (via ProQuest). In any case, the reasons given essentially amount to an argument to delete because cleanup is required, and this is invalid per WP:DELETIONISNOTCLEANUP. (Even though the desire for cleanup is appreciated.) Furthermore, there is no mention of any WP:BEFORE search. Strongly advise nominator to gain more experience in reading Wikipedia guidelines and editing in their areas of competence before nominating more articles for deletion. Cielquiparle (talk) 11:25, 20 June 2025 (UTC)- What do you see [3] there is likely a possible COI, tho I’m still checking, my issue is why the creator keeps removing tags, moving articles back to mainspace, creator lacks experience and temperament. Also can you show me how that article meets WP:SIGCOV? Allblessed (talk) 14:45, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- your comment that I “lack experience and temperament” falls afoul of Wikipedia’s civility and personal-attack policies. Per WP:CIVIL (“avoid personal attacks”) and WP:AGF (“assume good faith”), we’re encouraged to critique content, not contributors. I’ve been an editor for over 21 years and remain committed to improving this article. If you have concerns about neutrality, sourcing, or structure, please point to specific passages or sources so we can address them together. Milicz (talk) 18:10, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

- Milicz Point taken. It is kind of you to defend the nominator and to ask for specific feedback. Cielquiparle (talk) 04:49, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

- Draftify. First of all, it is very clear to me that neither of the tagged criteria for speedy deletion (A7 and G11) apply. A before search, which appears to have not been performed by the nominator, shows there is at least some indication of significance. G11 requires the article to be
exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopedia articles
(emphasis included in policy). Cleanup is required but not to the point that the article is not salvageable. Much of the content is unsourced and the references there are not great. Most are either not independent or are player profiles with one-line mentions of the subject program. Moving to draftspace will allow any interested user to build the article up to encyclopedic standards before moving it back into mainspace. - Delete - poorly sourced, promotional article written by SPA - they've also written similar topic Illinois Youth Soccer Association. GiantSnowman 10:17, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Suggesting that my article must be self-promotional because “someone involved in ODP” wrote it is an ad hominem circumstantial (genetic) fallacy: it rejects the content based solely on an assumed motive or origin rather than evaluating the article’s actual sourcing and neutrality. I have zero involvement in that organization and am still researching it.
- For context, this article emerged directly from the research conducted to answer the community question in Chicago: “Is Illinois ODP still worth it? Does it genuinely help with college recruitment?” You’ll see that the article:
- Notes ODP’s changing reputation, including that it has lost some of its earlier luster rather than presenting it as the undisputed pinnacle of development programs.
- Cites independent coverage—local newspaper articles, US Youth Soccer annual reports, and academic analyses—rather than relying on press releases or self-published claims.
- Maintains a neutral tone, focusing on verifiable facts about the program’s history, selection process, and outcomes.
- If there are specific passages you feel remain promotional or poorly sourced, I’m happy to rewrite them or add better citations. I’m committed to meeting WP:NEUTRAL and WP:RS standards, so please let me know any additional reliable sources I should include. Milicz (talk) 15:06, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Delete or redirect to U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program. This fails notability for organizations. There is simply not enough significant coverage in reliable sources to warrant an individual article for this org. Citing affiliated clubs is not independent. I mean Reddit is referenced despite our policy on Reddit. Two incidental mentions in the Chicago Tribune and sporadic mentions in the context of high school player plays soccer in regional newspapers does not cut it. --Mpen320 (talk) 17:39, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

- Reply. I am not accusing anyone of anything. I have started linking to that essay in AfDs because there is a subset of editors who think a Wikipedia article is a badge of honor and spend a lot of time trying to keep articles that should not exist. - OK @Milicz...starting to look a bit better. Do you think you could work out a way to explain that Illinois ODP also fields competitive girl's soccer teams in inter-state competitions in the lead paragraph? I think that is not really coming through unless you read further down. (If you only say "program" it sounds like a purely administrative thing which makes people want to delete it.) Cielquiparle (talk) 05:33, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment:The Tags on the article are too alarming, check creators contributions, there are high similarities on articles created, now for example the article title is "Illinois ODP" but the first text is "Illinois Girls Olympic Development Program", It seams to have a slight deviation from the article title to be honest. I was to suggest that instead of the creator creating similar pages with different Page names, It would have been wise to just create one or two and provide good source, good writing, formatting skills and make the writing clearer to anyone who comes across the article to understand.
- Allblessed (talk) 14:16, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Actually it's not uncommon at all for the article title to be short (see WP:CONCISE) versus the first bolded reference to the subject to be long (as examples, see Barack Obama or George H. W. Bush). Please also have a read of WP:DELETIONISNOTCLEANUP. You are right to want good sources and good writing, but AfD should not be your first port of call in addressing cleanup issues. - Reply @Allblessed it doesn’t help to challenge my removal of the CSD tags when those tags were added without proper justification. Wikipedia’s guidelines need to be applied consistently—both when adding and removing tags. Rules aren’t one-way streets. Rather than creating disputes, which you have done on my article), it would be more productive to collaborate on refining and improving the article itself. Milicz (talk) 15:00, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

- Reply @Cielquiparle I went ahead and made your suggested change and I think it works better. - Comment - when I last edited this article > 10 years ago, WP:RSP did not exist, much less WP:RSNOI that clearly affects notability here (based on the sources in this article). Actually, when WP:RSP came to exist in 2018, MTGF may have ceased to exist already. Their last Facebook post was in March 2018. Their website went down in 2017. Their initiative, Micro Premier League, had its last Facebook post in 2018. Their parent company Micro Technologies (India) Ltd has no article here, and possibly ceased to exist in 2014, with their website going down in 2015. starship.paint (talk / cont) 06:08, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Due to WP:RSNOI, it is imperative to review non-news sources. Google Books produces four results, which all seem to be false positives (preceding MTGF's founding in 2010, or just no mention in the book). Google Scholar produces one result under "Micro Tech Global Foundation", which merely cites MTGF as a reference for " Land Use Pattern of Navi Mumbai", nothing is described further about MTGF. Google Scholar produces one result for "MicroTech Global Foundation", but this is an article written by MTGF's chairman. Google News produces one report where MTGF's chairman contributed to, and one press-release like report. starship.paint (talk / cont) 06:28, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Delete - in light of the nominator's rationale, including WP:RSNOI, WP:ROUTINE and the lack of coverage in books or scholarly sources as I have written above, plus the already defunct < 10 years existence of this organization means no further notability. Page viewcount since 2015 lists an average of 1 view per day, so not prominent at all. starship.paint (talk / cont) 06:34, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

- Redirect to Indian Premier League#Broadcasting largely per WP:NOPAGE. This topic is adequately covered at the redirect target. Frank Anchor 12:25, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: First off, this was intended as a place to reinstate some history regarding the history of its broadcast rights that had been unilaterally removed by another editor without explanation, while allowing the main article to have more of a streamlined summary. In addition, this article is modeled after several similar articles in American sports, including NFL on American television and Major League Soccer on television, with the possibly of including more details about things like the production, notable personnel, etc. ViperSnake151 Talk 17:03, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Indian Premier League#Broadcasting which covers the topic suitably. We don't need a separate page with this level of detail into the broadcasting, the summary already in IPL article is sufficient. The keep vote seems like WP:OSE. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:16, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: It meets all Wikipedia guidelines for inclusion. Milicz (talk) 18:14, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep Initially even I thought that this article should be redirected, but when I looked at similar such articles of NFL and NHL, I realised that when the league will grow in years, broadcasters will change and there will be too much information to keep on the main IPL article. So we can put it all here and only summarise there. Also we can include various broadcasting/viewership records and stats here.
So I support in keeping this article here, as said above by other users aswell. Editking100 (talk) 21:26, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
I looked at WP:OSE as per you said, and my vote may not have followed the counterargument clause there, but my sole objective was to give information on the context (relevant here) wrt to other leagues doing the same and nothing else so I mentioned them here as a base example. I will not repeat it again, thanks for noting it to me. Editking100 (talk)
- Your argument
when the league will grow in years, broadcasters will change and there will be too much information to keep on the main IPL article
is WP:CRYSTAL-based speculation. When and if the league grows and there becomestoo much information to keep on the main IPL article
, adding a spin-off article can be considered. But certainly not now. Frank Anchor 14:46, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Your argument
You can verify yourself, there is currently 4x or 5x more information on broadcasting here in this article as compared to the main IPL wikipage (broadcasting section). So this was my reason above when I said, I am in support for Keep here, considering we already have more information to fill a spinoff article currently citing 48 sources, which isn't included in the main page. - And WP:HEY (read it now: Joey Hawkins). Agree with Wizardman that it's the first article from WikiOriginal-9 that makes it: "Heritage ex gives Knight a hand: Senior Joey Hawkins entered the ranks of the two-sport college athletes when he joined Bob Knight's basketball team after the football season" in Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In the end, although he was one of the two tallest players in the history of the Indiana Colts, as pointed out by The Indianapolis Star in 2005, it's really the bigger story about his track record as a multi-sport athlete who played not one, not two, but THREE sports – he was a pitcher at Colleyville Heritage High School in Texas, as pictured here in the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram in 1999 – that seals his notability. There is more coverage cited in the article now, but specifically I would also point to the article section about him in The Austin American-Statesman and the paragraphs about how he landed at the Colts, undrafted, in The Indianapolis Star. Request reconsideration. Cielquiparle (talk) 04:57, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. While, as with all other titles in the Category:Women's national under-16 basketball teams category, this title was primarily based on primary/NOTSTATS sources, my own WP:BEFORE identified (and I have added) a number of independent sources which deal with the subject in at least some depth. Not a "slam dunk" (no pun intended) but outright deletion doesn't seem an appropriate (or consistent) outcome here. (At the very least there should perhaps be some discussion on AtDs. - Keep Unlike the above !votes, I think Shalom passes WP:GNG. Understandably, I think frustration over this article passing our new page check system may have yielded insufficient WP:BEFORE. There are numerous articles which mention him by name and cover him to an extent that I would say passes WP:SIGCOV: e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Some of these might be debatable given that much of the coverage relates to the Eubank vs Benn fight, but there are articles with interviews of him and discussion of him as a promoter going back to 2024 - if he is a promoter who is being mentioned by name in article headlines across multiple fights spanning years of time, that seems notable.
- There's the odd source lurking around – a school yearbook with a little detail in for example, and he played for Sandy Bay in Hobart. The Allanby name in general crops up quite a bit as well. But there's nothing in depth enough to suggest keeping here for me that I can find, although I'm not great with Trove so someone else may find something. There is, however, an obvious redirect target at List of Tasmanian representative cricketers#Players whose debut was between 1969 and 1985, which, as a WP:ATD, would be the normal course of action for cricketers. This preserves the page history and allows for easy expansion if sources do become available, which happens Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:47, 10 June 2025 (UTC)

- Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

The book notes: "That's a hell of a lot of pedalling if you were to undertake the epic journey on a humble bicycle, but such trifling obstacles did not deter South African adventurer Riaan Manser when he decided to accept exactly that daunting challenge, an ambitious expedition which very nearly killed him. Manser set off on his trusty mountain bike from Cape Town in September 2003. He averaged an impressive 88.5km (55 miles) per day and after two years, two months and 15 days in the saddle, travelling through 34 different countries, he had become the first person to circumnavigate Africa on two wheels. ... Manser's feat was recognised when he was named 'Adventurer of the Year' by Out There magazine in 2006 and granted an audience with Nelson Mandela. - Keep – The player has significant coverage, considering he is an athlete from the US Virgin Island. Svartner (talk) 16:21, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Which of the sources within the article count towards significant coverage? Half of them are Facebook links and there is nothing that talks specifically about him. A Google search brought up very little, too. Certainly not enough to cover GNG. Zênite (talk) 19:57, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep – I have just added three more sources of significant coverage which also include the information from the social media sources. I will continue to add, but those sources alone, I feel, are enough to prove GN.--Gri3720 (talk) 14:36, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment – Source assessment below:
- [13] - I got a '500 internal server error', but it looks like a news article about the league, which likely included Ramos' signing.
- [14] - This is a (potentially self-completed) list of statistics and basic information.
- [15] - One paragraph covers Ramos.
- [16] - Statistics.
- [17] - Facebook.
- [18] - Facebook.
- [19] - VERY brief match report which notes that Ramos scored.
- [20] - Facebook.
- [21] - Match stats.
- [22] - Match stats.
- [23] - Match stats.
- [24] - Club stats.
- [25] - List of players who played for the college who went on to sign pro contracts. Ramos is mentioned. One line.
- [26] - YouTube.
- [27] - Facebook.
- [28] - Facebook.
- [29] - Non-independent source, though it does give a fair amount of coverage, it cannot count towards GNG.
- [30] - Facebook.
- [31] - Facebook.
- [32] - Notification of Ramos winning an award. Not sigcov.
- [33] - Not sure it would be in-depth enough to constitute sigcov, but it's another non-independent source, as he was alumni at this university, and cannot count towards GNG.
- [34] - I would say this is sigcov.
- [35] - Non-independent source.
- [36] - Not actually available in my region, but seems to be a run-of-the-mill match report, which likely includes a reference of Ramos.
- [37] - Notification of transfer. Not even an individual one.
- [38] - Non-independent and not sigcov.
- [39] - This appears to be a blog, but would be sigcov (IMO) if it is allowed.
- [40] - Statistics.
- [41] - 404, but it looks like a squad announcement. Not sigcov.
- [42] - Match stats.
- [43] - This article is about his brother, Dylan, and makes no reference to him.
Overall, we have one, potentially two, of the thirty-one sources which are significant coverage. Zênite (talk) 18:31, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related deletions. GiantSnowman 18:35, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per sources and analysis above which show notability. GiantSnowman 18:40, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- As I said before, it is natural that for an athlete from the US Virgin Island the most substantial part of the coverage is through social media. I think it is valid WP:COMMONSENSE. Svartner (talk) 18:51, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- As much as I would like to agree with this, the problem we then face is that the social media coverage comes from non-independent sources. Of the social media links in the article, 5 is the academy he was playing for announcing a touring squad, 6 is the club he was playing for at the time announcing that he was moving to a new club, 8 again is the academy stating that a number of their players were looking for contracts in Europe, 14 is a YouTube video that provides little information, and is just clips of him playing, 15 was deleted or the account went private, but regardless, it was still non-independent as it was the page of the club he played for. 16 is the same club announcing that he would return for the 2020 season, 18 is a university announcing that they had recruited Ramos, and 19 is his club at the time announcing the news that the university had recruited him.
- While I would support contributions to sigcov coming from social media (i.e. YouTube interviews/news segments, Facebook interviews/in-depth coverage), I do not think this applies here. Zênite (talk) 19:00, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the list of Caribbean-related deletion discussions. Svartner (talk) 19:26, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment-I make this comment and ask this question every time someone nominates an article like this one for deletion. What motivates someone to want people to have less access to information? I understand Wikipedia has guidelines but what motivate someone to take the time and effort to defend the removal of access to information. I understand if someone made one friendly appearance for Saint Martin and the only reference is the NFT profile, but there is so much information available here. He’s playing in a fully professional league, captain of his national team, will likely become their most capped player. Again I ask, why try so hard to wipe someone from Wikipedia existence?--Gri3720 (talk) 20:35, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- I think the better question here is "Why do the US Virgin Islands, or at least sports journalists from the nation, not care about their football team's captain enough to even write basic news articles about him?" From my experience, journalism on football players in the US and it's territories has always been awful, as it's a nation which only loves and appreciates those who are successful. While, in other countries, there is generally at least one good article written about a mundane third/fourth division footballer, in the US it seems they just do not care. It's not even a population issue either, as I have found multiple articles on Chinese players who have done nothing of note in their careers. Zênite (talk) 09:38, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep I am not that impressed with Zênite's assessment, however it gives a little indication on sources. A X for the PDF scan of a small town newspaper called Highland News-Sun seems notable enough. I'd say the article squeaks by enough with those sources considering the issues of WP:PRIMARY. Govvy (talk) 08:59, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- There are two Highland News-Sun articles cited on this Wiki page. The first contains the following information about Ramos:
Joshua Ramos, senior, Sebring - Ramos showed great vision and was the team-leader in goals scored for the Blue Streaks. “Joshua controlled the field very well and had incredible vision,” coach Peters said. “He led the team in goals with 14 for the season and in assists at 15. He was a natural leader and it showed off and on the field and his presence will be missed.”
- The second contains the following information about Ramos:
and with my other brother playing soccer it was kind of a mandatory thing for me to play because my whole family plays.
- This would be due to the second article being about his brother, Dylan. We don't even know for certain that this quote is even about Joshua, as Dylan precedes this by talking about another brother who is a goalkeeper.
- I feel like I'm losing my mind here. These are not nearly enough for sigcov. Even if we ignore the fact that most of the references are primary, the sources in this article are brief. If the Facebook articles went into great depth about Ramos and his life, fair enough, but they simply do not. Zênite (talk) 09:28, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

Cielquiparle (talk) 11:25, 20 June 2025 (UTC)- What do you see [49] there is likely a possible COI, tho I’m still checking, my issue is why the creator keeps removing tags, moving articles back to mainspace, creator lacks experience and temperament.

- I have tried to address tone, and have added citations or removed claims I could not find proper citations for. Added ProQuest citations. Thank you for your suggestions Milicz (talk) 18:07, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

I could just as easily assume you hated ODP and wanted to create an attack page for this organization or that you are just very, very into youth soccer.--Mpen320 (talk) 00:57, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Who says I like Illinois ODP? Article itself emerged directly from the research conducted to answer the community question in Chicago: “Is Illinois ODP still worth it? Does it genuinely help with college recruitment?” As you can see (if you read it), that's an open question. Milicz (talk) 15:16, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. Striking my earlier !vote. Leaning either draftify or redirect to U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program; this article absolutely cannot be kept as is. Milicz You can't cite other Wikipedia articles. See WP:CIRCULAR. You need to remove all those citations you've added to other Wikipedia articles (I removed one for you and then stopped) and replace them with other reliable sources (see WP:RS).
- Did you see the contributions of the user? Did you see the consistency in removing CSD tags and moving drafts back to mainspace? Allblessed (talk) 13:58, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

Now that I’ve reviewed the title, the article should be split into two sections—one for the girls’ program and one for the boys’. I’ll research the boys’ side before drafting that section. Biography of a footballer, not properly sourced as passing WP:NSPORT. As always, footballers are not automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because they existed, and have to be shown to achieve certain notability benchmarks supported by WP:GNG-worthy third-party reliable source coverage about their careers -- but this literally just states that he existed without saying anything about his career above and beyond the simple fact of existing, and is referenced to two unreliable source directory entries that aren't support for notability and a brief mention of his name in a book on the overall "official history" of one team he played for, which isn't enough to get him over GNG all by itself.
As I don't have access to archived British media coverage from the 1930s, I'd be happy to withdraw this if somebody who does have such access can find better sourcing with which to say more about him than just "he was a player who existed, the end", but simple existence isn't "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from needing better referencing than this. - Delete for your reasoning.--Burroughs'10 (talk) 17:13, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment The article is only three days old, did you not consider asking the creator to improve the article first? I did struggle to find sources, I found his name on an old archive score card here, but from whats written on vintagefootballers.com there could be some stuff to look up. He was then called up to WW2, so he might also have information on him from that time. I'd have to say, just because you can't find stuff on the internet doesn't mean there isn't offline resources like the old newspapers. I wouldn't call this an open and shut case. Govvy (talk) 18:41, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Delete for the reasons stated by the nominator and lack of anything I can find independently from my own searching. The argument put forward that the article is only three days old so should be kept is illogical. It should have been researched properly before being published. As for "he was in WW2 so there must be coverage", that's nonsense too as millions of people were involved in WW2 without getting any media coverage for their efforts. Finally you can't just say "there must be offline coverage", you have to prove it or at least show it is more likely then not and even then offline coverage still needs to meet the SIGCOV threshold, not just be brief mentions in a match report or a line about a transfer to a new club. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 20:57, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Reply @Anxioustoavoid: You should read what I wrote again, because one, I never said the article should be kept, two I said there maybe possible coverage of his time in WW2, and three, there will be offline coverage of him, maybe you need to also read what you wrote!! - Not that I owe you an explanation but here it is. I asked for my previous account to be closed after getting really mad one day over an issue with a user who was clearly using multiple accounts and IP addresses to continually incorrectly change a group of boxers nationalities and no-one would intervene to stop this. I lost my head so to speak and quit, then decided to come back with this account a few weeks later. Never had an account before then. Going to attack the editor because you can't attack my argument I presume? Another thing which factored into my quitting Wikipedia previously. My username refers to me being anxious to avoid all the pettiness on Wikipedia but it seems I have become embroiled in it for a second time. Partly my fault for engaging with you I accept but there we go. I will not be engaging further with you so say/do what you like. As you will see from my edit history - which since you went to the effort of tracking down my previous account I'm sure you have already looked at - I'm not exactly prolific on here so if it makes you happy to seek to have me banned then go right ahead. I won't fight it and you can get a warm feeling inside. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 10:23, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

- Very weak keep—Although I recognize that FA Lebanon is not the Lebanese Football Association, and thus I believe the above source is valid, I'm not sure it's enough to bring this article fully into WP:SIGCOV compliance. That said, if we take the policy exactly by its letter, I think this article creeps barely over the line. Anwegmann (talk) 19:53, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

- Keep - @Svartner: Tuvalu has limited media and the fact that he was clearly one of the pre-eminent athletes of Tuvalu and has received international coverage (as shown in the article) speaks for itself. Clearly significant figure in Tuvalu with sources. Thanks, Das osmnezz (talk) 05:36, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

- There is no source with in-depth coverage, but as I said above, it is possible to redirect to the player stats section, since he is one of the players who scored the most goals. For Tuvaluan footballers, a list of athletes who served the national team seems more appropriate to me. Svartner (talk) 23:20, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Anwegmann:, @Svartner:, He does have sources, also See what I said above, also see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Okilani Tinilau (2nd nomination). Thanks, 21:43, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Delete Fails GNG and SIGCOV. The existing references are either brief mentions in match reports, non-independent as they are from the Tuvalu FA or are brief transfer reports about him joining a Dutch Sunday League team which is hardly a notable thing as there are many thousands of Sunday League footballers who do not warrant an article on Wikipedia. I can't find anything substantial on him independently either. I also suggest something is done to stop this being recreated as it has already been through AFD twice and deleted only to be recreated and brought back to AFD. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 22:14, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- The Dutch sources literally say he is the best Tuvaluan footballer and all-time top scorer of national team. Again, this is about context and he was clearly one of Tuvalu's pre-eminent athletes who even received foreign coverage. Defnitely a signifcant figure in Tuvalu overall. - Comment - As stated above, He gets a lot of media for someone who comes from a country with barely any media, let alone football media. Again, context is everything. He is likely one of most prominent Tuvaluan athletes in history and is likely well-known in Tuvalu. Thanks, Das osmnezz (talk) 05:02, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Keep Das osmnezz makes a good point. "Significant" coverage is relative. For a country like Tuvalu, his coverage in international (Dutch) media is significant. 24.170.37.45 (talk) 01:06, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

@AnwegmannAnxioustoavoid, per WP:LOUTSOCK: If you have concerns that an IP editor is actually a user with an account who is editing while logged out in a way that is inappropriate, you can give the IP editor notice of this policy ({{subst:uw-login}} is available for this purpose), and if the behavior continues, you should contact a CheckUser privately and present the evidence to them.- I strongly suggest you strike your accusation here. It may be seen as a personal attack or aspersion on both the IP and Das osmnezz, who based on publicly available information seem to be over a thousand miles away from each other. Toadspike [Talk] 10:39, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. I have gone through the sources in the article and I am very surprised that editors claimed there's no sigcov. This source [54] is perfect significant coverage of Alopua Petoa and Vaisua Liva. Alopua is referred to (by his first name) 9 times throughout the article, which is over 800 words long and restates that Alopua is the "the top scorer of the national team". (The article is paywalled, but I was able to read it by creating an account.) The two other Dutch articles [55][[56] and this page [57] (though not independent) also contribute to notability, in my view, as does the undisputed and well-sourced top scorer claim. Toadspike [Talk] 07:13, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Normally I would ping all the people who said there's no SIGCOV, but since this discussion has already seen some unwanted pinging I will leave it be. However, I hope the closer can take into account that the main concern of the nominator and others has, in my view, been addressed. Toadspike [Talk] 07:15, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Adding to your point, the articles also establish that he may have been the best Tuvualuan footballer (which one article literally wrote) and clearly one of the pre-eminent athletes of Tuvalu. Thanks, Das osmnezz (talk) 11:36, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: I considered just closing as no consensus, but I figure we should take one more chance to look at the sources that Toadspike highlights. It seems the arguments to delete the article have not addressed these sources. My sense is that additional careful consideration of these sources should settle this either way. If not, I would close this as no consensus.

The subject fails to meet the guidelines for WP:GNG and WP:NCORP due to a lack of significant coverage from independent, reliable sources. The existing sources do not discuss the subject in depth or in length, and they do not meet the verification requirements. Currently, the available sources are either not independent or not reliable. If anyone can provide independent, reliable sources in the Thai language, please do so, and we will review them to determine if they meet the necessary criteria. - Delete — I think it's too soon for this page to exist. Except for the calendar there is nothing else 100% confirmed about next year's season. No drivers announced yet, and teams or the points system for example are not confirmed to be the same as this year as indicated on the 2026 article. So there's no point in keeping a page, which is basically empty. User:BryOn2205 (talk) 09:42, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify: I agree that the page was published too soon, but there’s no need to delete the existing article when the same exact content (such as the calendar or entry list table) is going to have to be added once again when drivers start to get announced. Full deletion is unnecessary. GalacticVelocity08 (talk) 10:48, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify WP:TOOSOON, but given the importance of the series and how previous seasons have reached notability more sources will be published and the 2026 season will (almost) certainly meet notability criteria.Giuliotf (talk) 14:08, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Lists of people, Rugby union, and South Africa. Shellwood (talk) 15:07, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- This is false. They are notable in so far as they record who played for a major club side, some of which end up playing for other teams. If that information is not recorded then it is lost, making it impossible to track player development and also maintain the history of a significant rugby club. For me this is like removing films from a director's filmography because they are not critically acclaimed. Whybeetoo (talk) 18:30, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:RU/N they are not notable. "Youth players are not notable unless they satisfy one of the statements above, or if they can be shown to meet the wider requirements of WP:GNG." See Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union/Notability#Biographies. Louis (talk) (contribs) 20:10, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- But these are not Biographies? And so that section doesnt apply. This is a page that allows the tracking of player development over an extended period, allowing a reader to understand the health of a junior system. Its not a list of biographies. Secondly these are not youth players, these are professionally contracted rugby players, all above the age of 18. Whybeetoo (talk) 21:00, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

- Also, WP:SIGCOV. A google search of "Sharks Junior Squad" reveals minimal results with all those relating to this topic being from primary sources. A new catogary would be better suited for this ie: Category:Sharks (rugby union) junior players (or similar) for any players that pass GNG of WP:RU/N Louis (talk) (contribs) 22:07, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- If you google the component teams of the Junior Squad you get substantial mentions from multiple sources. This includes multiple independently sourced press coverage. Sharks u21, u20, u19 etc. The Junior Squad is just a catch all term for players contracted but eligible for these teams. The mentions are not trivial or in passing, they are articles specifically written about these teams and often these players. Whybeetoo (talk) 22:43, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Delete This is mostly fancruft which fails WP:GNG and WP:NLIST. The sourcing present is just team announcements for junior rugby competitions. Perhaps a small separate section on Sharks (Currie Cup) could be added to mention the U21 side and players representing their county at U20 level but this is complete overkill. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 13:07, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- Please detail how it fails WP:GNG and WP:NLIST so your claim can be evaluated. Not all Wikipedia content requires individual notability if the topic itself has informative or encyclopedic value. Squad tracking serves a research and documentation role akin to sports archives or player pathway databases. Whybeetoo (talk) 09:07, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Fails WP:GNG as there is no sustained coverage of the sides and the players that partake. Fails WP:NLIST as it's not discussed in reliable sourcing similar to GNG. If Wikipedia was a sports oracle of SA Rugby oracle then could perhaps be included, but this is just fancruft for me with no encyclopedic value. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:51, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

Subject does not have the needed WP:SIGCOV to meet the WP:SPORTSCRIT. The only source as it stands is a database and a cursory search only came up with results for unrelated people sharing the same name, without anything to support this subject meeting the notability guidelines. PROD was removed without any significant coverage being added, so bringing this to AfD. Let'srun (talk) 23:05, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

Current sourcing consists of a short blurb, and two primary sources. Searches did not turn up enough in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources to support meeting WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 10:57, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
