Guidance on citations for new/updated listings?
[edit]Hey all, looking for guidance on the correct way to format/cite/deal with new or updated listings to the NRHP. Specific case here is the recently approved expansion/changes to the Fort D.A. Russell Historic District in Marfa, Presidio County, TX (listed on the county-specific article). The district has been expanded, has additional classifications, and was renamed the Fort D.A. Russell Historic District / Donald Judd Historic District to recognize the artist Donald Judd's contributions to the site (see more at Chinati Foundation). Obviously the NRHP's ability to digitize all the forms and publicly document all changes is not perfect, so I was wondering what the procedure is for citing these changes and also how to appropriately adjust the listings for this historic district on the county-specific page/any other articles. This change was included in the May 3 weekly list from NPS. It was also reported in quite a few art news publications, and I was able to find the registration form submitted by the Texas historical preservation authority. Thanks for any guidance/tips! 19h00s (talk) 14:47, 19 July 2025 (UTC)

Citation issues
[edit]There is a discussion about citing NRHP at Template_talk:NRISref#Cite_issues, specifically our current lack of support for citing these things with all their complexity and nuances. -- GreenC 23:54, 8 September 2025 (UTC)

NRHP site demolished
[edit]So, I had noticed a while ago that there was a new home on the same lot as the Thorn-Stingley House. Then, last week, they bulldozers rolled in and completely demolished it, leaving only the new house. I don't know if it was de-listed or what, and I don't have a source, but I am quite certain it no longer exists. Beeblebrox Beebletalks 18:15, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up, Beeblebrox. It's always sad to see historic homes go the way of the dozer. I was unable to locate any recent info about the home, and it doesn't appear to have been officially de-listed from the NRHP yet, but I'll check back periodically and update the article once it's reported on. - Did it have anything to do with the Homer Airport expansion? https://dot.alaska.gov/creg/homerairport/docs/HAI-Draft-EA-Jan2022-Appendices.pdf SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:37, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- There's a project-space list of NR "issues" (including demolished buildings) at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/NRIS information issues if you'd like to record the Thorn-Stingley House there. FWIW, for buildings that are likely demolished but without a source to that effect, I've been taking a picture of the empty lot and noting something like "the house is no longer at its listed location" or whatever. See for example the David and Elizabeth Bell Boldman House or the Miller-Walker House. Andrew Jameson (talk) 19:48, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- If you want to make sure it (and others you are aware of) gets delisted, contact your state SHPO (state historic preservation office, the entity responsible for managing a state's listings). There are many demolished listings on the register, but states often do not act, because it is (as I understand it) a paperwork hassle. Condition needs to be documented, current owners need to be found and notified, and so on. Magic♪piano 22:37, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
