"Short" comment on Maxim's oppose
[edit]I would like to comment on Maxim's oppose quickly, not completely (Balloonman did that well). I do make this comment not as the co-nom but as the guy who some people say knows some things about CSD. Maxim's oppose is not about those "mistakes" but about different philosophies when it comes to applying speedy criteria to articles. One of the most debated things about it is the relation between the speedy criteria (mostly G1 and G3) and WP:NOT. Current policy is that reasons derived from WP:NOT cannot be reasons for speedy deletion in itself (see WP:CSD#Non-criteria). Now let's take the example of Statian Rummy. Maxim claims it is a G3, a blatant hoax created in bad faith to vandalize. This assumption, while often made, is something we need to be careful about because it carries an assumption of bad faith. It needs to be differentiated from WP:MADEUP which is a part of WP:NOT. If the hoax is made in good faith or the creator of the page admits that it's made up, we cannot judge it to be a blatant hoax. But if this is not a blatant hoax, it cannot be speedy deleted. This is current consensus regarding stuff that is made up and I do not think that we can scold anyone for following it. If you, Maxim, think this is incorrect, then that is your right. But then it should be sought to be changed at WT:CSD. At least in this case any admin speedy deleting the page as G3 would clearly violate policy that explicitely forbids doing so. It might not be well-liked in certain situations but the community has previously discussed and explicitly rejected speedy deletion for such cases. Admins are chosen also by their ability to use their tools ignoring the rules where needed. But I doubt anyone can make a convincing case that an IAR deletion was needed in this case for the best of the project and as such, I feel it's unfair to decltype for simply choosing the venue he thought to be correct within current policy.
