Request for notability assessment: Draft:Adi Shapiro draft (WP:COMPOSER criterion 4)

[edit]

Hi WikiProject Composers editors,

I would greatly appreciate your input on a draft biography of Adi Shapiro, an Israeli-British composer.

The draft has been declined multiple times at AFC, with reviewers focusing on general notability and not addressing my request to consider WP:COMPOSER criterion 4, which, to my understanding, provides a sufficient condition for notability for composers.

I believe the draft satisfies this criterion, as it documents:

  • Multiple open-age anonymous international competition recognitions, including a first prize at Femfestival (Italy), as well as finalist and special mention placements at ORIENT/OCCIDENT (Ukraine) and Vienna Classical Music Academy (Austria), and selection for the IAWM Annual Concert (Germany).
  • Selection for performance by professional ensembles, including Sound Ensemble (Seattle), KLK Symphony Orchestra (Lviv), Virago Symphony Orchestra (Germany) and Roman Quartet (Budapest), through competitive anonymous submissions.

I would be grateful if a subject expert here could review and advise whether or not, in your view, the draft satisfies WP:COMPOSER criterion 4 as a sufficient condition for notability?

Thank you very much for your expertise and guidance. Udi shapiro (talk) 11:44, 2 July 2025 (UTC) I would be grateful if a subject expert here could review and advise whether or not, in your view, the draft satisfies WP:COMPOSER criterion 4 as a sufficient condition for notability?[reply]

Formatted a bit and will look now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:32, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the criteria, which say "Composers, songwriters, librettists or lyricists, may be notable if they meet at least one of the following criteria:" which tells me "may be notable": not automatically notable if one of them is met. Please, Udi, read other composers' articles and bring this one in line if you want to get it accepted.
  • referencing: There should be no references in the lead, only where the facts are mentioned in the body. Please sift references and keep only exquisite ones. Please don't use more than three references for one fact.
  • I see that only one of the competitions where a work won one has an article.
  • Please write something like a biography, in chronology.
  • Your user name suggests that you are a family member. Perhaps your best choice would be to wait until someone else finds the young woman notable enough to write an article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:48, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Gerda,
Thank you very much for your thoughtful feedback!
If it's OK with you, I would like to ask a few questions so that I can better understand your points and then possibly address them.
  1. Regarding your last point, yes, I am Adi’s father, as stated in the initial COI disclosure on the draft talk page. That said, my intention is to do the grunt work of making the entry worthy of publication, and then await an objective editor – such as yourself or someone else – to review, make any further necessary edits, and decide whether to publish it.
  2. Regarding your suggestion to “read other composers’ articles and bring this one in line,” could you please suggest one or a few examples to follow?
  3. Regarding "one of the competitions where a work won one has an article", I am not sure what you mean. Which competition? Which article? I believe references to official announcements by all awarding organisations were provided.
With these clarifications I will be able to work on all your comments and improve the draft.
Thank you again for your guidance and expertise.
Best regards,
Udi

Thank you, and I should probably have looked at the draft's article first. I suggest that we (all) continue our conversation there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, looking forward to hearing from you there. Udi shapiro (talk) 21:17, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Again,
I have revised the draft extensively based on comments by Gerda Arendt, thank you Gerda!
I have now published it again, and it will be great if someone from this group could review it, rather than a generalist editor.
Thanks again,
