Can somebody more tech-minded than me clarify or reword the sentence at the end of the lede that runs The computing use of the term "archive" should not be confused with the record-keeping meaning of the term. This article does briefly cover web archiving and "dark archives". The word "archive" is also used in computing as a near-synonym for backup, and hence is used in such technical terminology as archive bit and archive file. But surely in all those cases, as in more traditional usage, the word is being used with broadly the same undertones, to suggest means of ensuring the long-term retention of data that might otherwise be regarded as ephemeral and therefore at risk of destruction. If there's some fine distinction I'm missing, please explain. I'm going to add a "clarify" tag. GrindtXX (talk) 16:29, 26 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
