Hmm...the main sources for the article seems to be a Facebook post from a friend of the family that merely says that he was on board as well as unnamed "officials." It doesn't matter if the originating source was a Facebook account. 1) It's the official Facebook account of the airport 2) its 2025 – it's very common for official bodies to announce via social media platforms as that's where more people will see it and 3) we have multiple news agencies running with the story that he's dead – so their news rooms have presumably independently confirmed it as legitimate. If you follow their link it goes to the official page for that airport. When did we decide that the independent judgement of a handful of editors as to whether he's dead or not is superior to MSNBC-affiliated journalists who have reported/confirmed it? These are my thoughts, since it appears many people wanted this article to be updated as soon as reports started coming out.

From my understanding, the reason Wikipedia editors wait for a reliable source to publish a confirmation is simply because Wikipedia itself does not want to be used as a source. If speculation and "reports" are the only source, people tend to go to the Wikipedia article to see what it says. I'm a bit more inclined to believe the People sourced seeing as how a congressional official (who is a family friend) confirmed the news. I'd rather have an official statement or something from the authorities confirmed it as well, but the People source is a good (tragic) indicator that within the hour we'll get an official confirmation from family/authorities that Biffle is among the deceased. Official statements on Congresspeople's social media generally have to go through approvals by multiple staffers. Plus, as a Congressman, it's plausible (even likely) that Hudson would've been privately briefed by local authorities. I'm inclined to accept this as reliable personally. Per what I said above I feel that the People source is good enough but it doesn't hurt to wait for an official confirmation from authorities. There's no need for Wikipedia to rush so quickly since we're not the news, but the People source is a good indicator that we might get a confirmation soon with Biffle indeed being among the deceased. Article doesn't match the headline info. "However, NCSHP troopers only said that Biffle was believed to be among the seven victims, due to the ongoing identification process," is what I see in that article.
