Hello, all. I noticed that the section about the "Jewish State" bill is very misleading and needs to be looked at.
In particular, the sentence:
The bill would also allow the establishment of segregated towns in which residency is restricted by religion or nationality—which has been compared to the 1950 Group Areas Act, which established apartheid in South Africa.
This cites a few sources that specifically cite a passage in the bill to support their claims.
However if you go to the page for the bill, the passage does not exist and it appears that the passage was not in the final bill. From my preliminary research, the offending passage was proposed but not adopted into the final bill.
My proposal would be to change it to
The bill would have also included a clause that allowed the establishment of segregated towns in which residency is restricted by religion or nationality—which was been compared to the 1950 Group Areas Act, which established apartheid in South Africa. However, this clause was removed from the bill.
The Ministerial Committee for Legislation unanimously approved the bill in May 2017.
Obviously this is just a quick and dirty edit so any other ideas would be welcome. But I do believe this to be an issue that needs addressing. Jkinz3 (talk) 20:28, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted an edit to the lede. Sorry Tinmanic, there has been a lot of discussion about the specific wording over many years, and this is where it has landed.
I suggest if anybody wants to change the lede, have a discussion here first and try to get consensus.
The lede is extremely far from NPOV, as has been mentioned in other sections on this talk page, such as "Views of Black American political commentator", "Factually incorrect statements in the lead", and "Removal of a large amount of text". The number of references not allowed in this article is substantial. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 09:39, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There are two links to the same article on Collective Punishment that are in the See Also section. One should be removed, but this particular article is locked for fear of vandalism. Stuntbear1972 (talk) 17:30, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yoseph Haddad’s op-ed is not due for this article.
1. He is a pro-Israel activist writing an opinion piece that I don't think was covered by secondary sources.
2. He has no expertise on South African apartheid or Black experiences of it and is not qualified to comment on whether comparing Israeli apartheid to South African apartheid is offensive to Black people. Visiting the apartheid museum in Joburg and meeting some unnamed Black South Africans does not mean he has expertise in these topics.
3. He does not cite or quote anyone with expertise on the topic, not even the Black South Africans he met.
4. Various Black South Africans (some of whom are mentioned in this wikipedia article) have said that Israeli apartheid is similar or worse than South African apartheid, so it is odd to include Haddad’s personal opinion that they are “cheapening” their own experience.
5. Haddad concludes the op-ed by implying that he is the real victim of apartheid in Israel because he wasn’t allowed to speak at a conference. [1] This is not a serious piece of journalism or scholarship. Rainsage (talk) 02:22, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change:
Put either commas or M dashes (—) before and after "in contravention of international law" in the intro. Change "exploit the region's natural resources at its Palestinian inhabitants' expense." to "...exploit the region's natural resources at the expense of its Palestinian inhabitants."
These are minor alterations that I feel improve readability and sentence flow.
