Resource Request

How to use this page

[edit]

Making a request

[edit]

Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.

In particular, eligible editors can use the Wikipedia Library, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.
  • Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
  • Since we cannot post original copyrighted material online, we will most likely send it by email. Make sure you have specified an email address in your preferences before asking.
  • Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
  • Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.

What to try next

[edit]

If you are unable to obtain what you need here, you may be able to get it via the WMF resource support pilot.

Fulfilling a request

[edit]
  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests, in full or in part. When fulfilling a part of a request, tell others which one so that they don't have to do the same work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{u|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:

Books about folktales of Southeast Asian peoples (Tai Khamti and Shan)

[edit]

The following books were written by academics of the peoples themselves.

1 * Sai Aung Htun Dr. (2020). Taikhamti: Legends & Law. Shan Literature and Culture Association. pp. 1-6 (introduction), 75-80 (tale 16. "The Python"), 143-156 (tale nr. 29 "The Young Man from the Emerald Mollusc (Sao Hoi Seng)").

The introduction is for Khamti people as a possible source, tale 16 for "The Story of the Hamadryad" (girl marries python).

The alternate for tale 29 indicates it is a Khamti variant of Sang Thong (aka. "The Prince in a Golden Conch [Shell]"), because "Hǒi-sang" was the name used by J. Leyden and Captain James Low to indicate the existence of the tale in the early 19th century.

2. * Pu Loi Hom; Pu Loi Tun, eds. (2014). Shan Legends. Zaw Oo. pp. 109-121 (text for tale nr. 14, "The Story of Ai Maung of the Tousled Hair (White Shell-fish, the future Buddha)", 300-308 (text for tale nr. 48, "The Story of a Fairy and a Prince"), 314-317 (text for tale nr. 51, "The Youth of Emerald Mollusc").

The Story of a Fairy and a Prince is homonymous with a tale first collected from a Shan source and published by Mrs. Leslie Milne in 1910. Milne's tale is a Shan variant of ATU 408 and the Indian "The Belbati Princess". Would like to see if it another variant or a reedition of Milne's text. In the latter's case, will add it as a reprint and later to separate the Shan tales.

"White Shell-fish" has a parallel title to a Shan tale published by B. R. Pearne in Journal of the Burma Research Society with the title "The Silver Oyster", which has been pointed as a Shan variant of Sang Thong. Possibly another variant of the Shan tale.

"The Youth of Emerald Mollusc" has a similar title with the Khamti "The Young Man from the Emerald Mollusc (Sao Hoi Seng)".

@KHR FolkMyth: Sent the second request. – Doc TaxonTalk13:45, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Got it. Thank you. Yes. One was a reedition, the other was a version of the tale of "Sang Thong"/Silver Oyster in a Shan tale. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 15:23, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@KHR FolkMyth: I'm having a hard time finding information about the first book. It is not the same publisher, but are you potentially referencing this? If not, could you supply a link to an index like Google Books or WorldCat? Thanks. Averageuntitleduser (talk) 14:07, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I found a link to the National Library of Myanmar, indivating that the book exists somewhere. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 15:28, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
KHR FolkMyth, available copies of the books seem to be few and far between. There is the one that you found in the National Library of Myanmar, and the Department of Ethnical Literature & Culture-Kachin State also appears to have a copy, given the Facebook post here. Two bookshops also appear to have it: one here, for $3.5, and one here (although that post is from 2020). The first of those also includes a link to the book's table of contents, acknowledgements, introduction, and foreword. Note that the author died some months after publication, so reaching out to him is not an option. The reality is that the book is going to be difficult to borrow from a library. The best option would likely be to reach out to some of the parties above, and see if they would be willing to provide a scan of a few pages. (The bookshops may be less likely to do that, but while it's less than ideal to have to pay for sources used on Wikipedia, the cost before shipping does appear to be nominal—maybe they'd provide a scan so you wouldn't have to also pay for shipping?) --Usernameunique (talk) 18:27, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. I don't know. Is it an alternative? KHR FolkMyth (talk) 20:30, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, KHR FolkMyth. Is what an alternative? --Usernameunique (talk) 20:38, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
To get in touch with the author/publisher. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 20:47, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Getting in touch with an author or publisher is frequently a good way to get a copy of an article, especially when it's a niche piece; mentioning that it's for Wikipedia is also sometimes helpful, because it (a) shows it's for research (a reason for which authors, themselves researchers, frequently can relate), and (b) implies that the article might become more widely cited. Particularly here, when you're looking for a book that we can't find a trace of outside of Myanmar, I would try every available avenue. --Usernameunique (talk) 03:03, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
KHR FolkMyth, WP:Resource support pilot might also be an option. --Usernameunique (talk) 07:47, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
KHR FolkMyth, have you thought about the above idea? The program is looking for more requests. --Usernameunique (talk) 23:32, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did think about it, but it is a new venue for me, so I'm not too sure how to make this new request via the "Resource support pilot". How can I proceed? KHR FolkMyth (talk) 23:48, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't made a request there either yet, but this seems well in scope: a painfully obscure work that will be difficult to obtain without purchasing, and that has therefore been languishing on this page for seven months. You can enter your username at the top of the page here, then fill out the form. You'll need to link to this discussion (which explains the difficulty of obtaining the book), give the articles you plan to use the book for, and provide the link of Myanmar Bookshop (above), from which the book can be bought. Let me know how it goes! --Usernameunique (talk) 23:55, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
KHR FolkMyth, have you decided whether to go with the above approach? I think that is your best bet. --Usernameunique (talk) 02:17, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, who will provide the funds for purchasing the book? I've been mulling over the question before giving a more definitive answer, since I'm trying to expand the scope of Asian and African topics. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 14:24, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Doing... This here seems to be very difficult. I try to help somehow. But you have to be patient and keep your fingers crossed. – Doc TaxonTalk15:03, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, i need page from 13 before 40 and from 110 before 155. Thanks ~~~~ Ezra5555 (talk) 16:50, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ARandomName123 Has this been resolved? BorgQueen (talk) 10:14, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Doing... via ILL. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:22, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ARandomName123, any luck via ILL? I may be able to request a scan of this if the ILL doesn't work out. --Usernameunique (talk) 18:34, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique: My ILL is on "Locating available copy". Feel free to try if you'd like. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 06:19, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezra5555: Between 13 to 40 and 110 to 155, which one do you need more? My library responded (cc: Usernameunique) and they said they can request one chapter or page range. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:30, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi i need both. For article i musst have this all pages from 13 to 40 and 110 to 155. It is very important.I know that is difficult but i need that. Sorry. Ezra5555 (talk) 16:59, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezra5555: I'm sorry, but it is up to the holding library how much they are willing to scan. I've asked them for both ranges, but told them if they're not able to do both, then 13-40 would be fine. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:36, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay i agree with you. I will wait for 13-40 p. Thanks Ezra5555 (talk) 09:17, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezra5555: Unfortunately, I can't get it anytime soon. After I sent that reply, they told me they still weren't able to get it, with the note Regret, only available as loan - pages requested lack copyright permission. Please resubmit in the New Year if a loan of the complete item is acceptable. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 06:18, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ARandomName123 No, I don't believe the material about him is over many pages. But thank you. PARAKANYAA (talk) 06:38, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PARAKANYAA, this book is cited in 16 different articles. Have you tried contacting any of the editors who added it? It looks like five users were collectively responsible for the decisions. The Australian

  • "Highway a $41m mistake". The Australian. News Limited. 2 February 1988.

Page is unknown. This may have something to help me with Yanchep line.

Thanks, Steelkamp (talk) 02:10, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI (you may already know this), I tired looking at Newsbank online, but it only has 1998 issues onwards. So I'm sorry, I cannot help with this one. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:48, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Coincidentally, I was just using that database to add sources to the Mandurah line. Steelkamp (talk) 04:11, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Steelkamp I scanned the whole 2 Feb 1988 issue; I didn't see this article. Are you sure these deets are correct? MmeMaigret (talk) 04:41, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mmemaigret: That was being used as a reference on Northern Suburbs Transit System before that article was merged with Yanchep line. Its possible that this article only appeared in the Western Australian edition of the newspaper. Otherwise, something is wrong in the original citation. Steelkamp (talk) 04:52, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Steelkamp, that reference was added by Thewinchester in this 2007 edit, with the note "Accessed at State Records Office of Western Australia, Perth". That's an old edit, to be sure, and Thewinchester hasn't been active since September 2024, but pinging here in case Thewinchester has any recollection of it or is able to help. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:42, 2 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Any further context to this?
What I can say is, based on the reference and the original commit date, that citation is from a newspaper article that was within Government Archives, found when I was doing in-person research from files requested from their offsite archive.
Sadly, my original cite at the time does not have the file number, box or other information which would allow me to quickly identify where in the files it was.
I can say with certainty, that the content I quoted from the article in the commit is a direct and accurate quote of the article observed.
My best and easiest approach would be to go microfiche hunting at SLWA for this edition if it's on file. Thewinchester (talk) 19:01, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Tabletop game magazines

[edit]

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for this, and if not maybe you can point me in the right direction? I'm not looking for specific sources about specific topics, but rather collections of magazines to be useable generally as sources. There are a bunch of such magazines on Internet Archive, but there are several that I have not found, or at least not found full collections of, so maybe someone who is better at searching for this sort of thing could help me locate the ones I am missing? If you see them at IA, or available somewhere else, could you ping me and let me know? Or if there is a more appropriate forum to ask could you let me know that?

  1. Challenge (1986 - 1995); issues are numbered #25-77; most issues are available on IA[1] although many have missing pages; issues missing entirely or unreadable are #31-32, 44, 53-55, 73-77
  2. Games Unplugged (2000 - 2004); 34 issues
  3. GamesMaster International (1990 - 1991); 15 issues
  4. GM (1988 - 1990); 19 issues
  5. InQuest Gamer (1995 - 2007); 150 issues; many are available on IA[2] with another partial collection here[3]; so missing are 16, 18-22, 25, 27-32, 35, 37-38, 42, 44-48, 51, 53-57, 59-64, 66-78, 82-87, 89-129, 131-150
  6. Pyramid (1993 - 1998); 30 issues from volume 1; most of the articles can be found on the sjgames.com website, although many are incomplete snippets, so copies of the actual magazines would be preferrable (second volume was online only, third volume had no reviews, so only need first volume)
  7. Shadis (1990 - 1998); 53 issues; many issues are available on IA[4] and #25:[5] so missing are #24, 26-28, 30-33, 36-37, 39, 41-47, 49-53
  8. Valkyrie (1994 - 2003); 28 issues
  9. VIP of Gaming (1985 - 1986); at least 5 issues:[6]
  10. White Wolf (1986 - 1995); 57 issues

Anything you can find would be a big help!

Thanks, BOZ (talk) 22:55, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @BOZ! It would help for other volunteers here to know what articles are you plannning to use these resources on. RFNirmala (talk) 01:16, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Mainly just for the reviews sections. If it's too broad of a request, I will just approach it again in the future in a more narrowly focused way. BOZ (talk) 01:30, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WWI French Aces Encyclopedia

[edit]

Does anyone have a copy and can check if Charles de Tricornot de Rose is covered? It was a suggestion made out of the WP:GA review for the article. Would be Volume 7 if he's filed under Rose and Volume 8 if he's under "Tricornot". All the best - Dumelow (talk) 10:54, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GBooks, OCLC 1428307614 Viriditas (talk) 21:38, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dumelow, Worldcat shows only one copy held by a library, and it's volume 3. Since the first step is simply to find out if Tricornot de Rose is covered, you might message some people who have copies. Volume 7 & Volume 8 are on eBay by the same seller. There are also two other listings for volume 7 (here & here). If they confirm that he's in one of them, we can figure out next steps from there. --Usernameunique (talk) 15:46, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dumelow, any luck with that approach? --Usernameunique (talk) 02:34, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Usernameunique, I missed this excellent suggestion. I have messaged the seller - Dumelow (talk) 21:24, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, Dumelow. Did they respond? --Usernameunique (talk) 23:39, 18 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, no luck. I'll keep an eye out to see if any other sellers have them, I have plenty to be getting on with in the meantime. If you want to close down this thread that's fine - Dumelow (talk) 07:44, 20 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Anton Palvadre

[edit]

I'm trying to improve the Wikipedia article for Anton Palvadre, but most of the sources on him are offline in the Estonian National Archives - if anyone lives near the archives, could you possibly take out these documents?

Thanks, monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 19:27, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be willing to offer some compensation(not guaranteed) if you need to pay to access the documents - either in the form of CS:GO skins(of which I have too many of), or a Zelle/PayPal transfer. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 19:35, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We don't offer compensation (Resource Request + all of Wikimedia); this is a volunteer service. Roast (talk) 03:19, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry - I was looking at the bounty board before this. Thanks for the reminder. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 16:31, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned above, this is a volunteer service so you do not need to provide compensation to us. Ideally, there should be no costs associated with your editing, or access to resources. However, if no one is able to access these, you can ask the WMF to pay for to access these documents at the Wikipedia:Resource support pilot. According to the website (not sure if I'm reading the price list correctly), they're fairly cheap. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 05:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Monkeysmashingkeyboards, have you thought about taking it to the resource support pilot, as ARandomName123 suggested? Given that the actual records appear to be in Estonia, there are probably few users here with ready access to them. --Usernameunique (talk) 02:37, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For Graciosa and Percinet and Animal as Bridegroom (including distribution section). Plantade gives more context to the Mediterranean tradition of the tale type, including the Corsican one.

Bru-Bonnemason's book adds some new variants from the French context. I'm also asking for the sommaire/table de matières for future references.

KHR FolkMyth, where did you find the reference to the chapter in question for #2? I'm not seeing references to it online. Incidentally, the title contained a typo (it is "Quand les contes se racontent", not "Quand les contes se raconte"), which I've fixed in the cite above. I've also added the ISBN and OCLC. --Usernameunique (talk) 00:49, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Divided Sexism: Trans Exclusion by "Feminists"

[edit]

Along with select other articles in this issue if possible [8]. From what I can tell, it's available at the National Diet Library, but this is only accessible to Japanese residents.

Going to improve Gender-critical feminism by country, Feminism in Japan Thanks, Katzrockso (talk) 01:31, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Katzrockso, what articles are you looking for besides that one? Trying to decide whether I should try to ILL the whole thing, or just isolated articles. Harvard appears to have a copy of the issue in question, and is usually good about ILL requests. --Usernameunique (talk) 00:54, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique I was looking for most of the first half of the issue, the special feature "Feminism and Trans Exclusion"; I am not sure of the contents but many could be relevant to the aforementioned section of the article - there is not as large a volume of published literature on trans-exclusionary feminism in Japan as in other countries. But if the entire issue is too much, the articles that interested me the most were トランスジェンダー学生の受け入れと女子大学のミッション――日米の事例を中心に [Accepting Transgender Students and the Mission of Women's Colleges: Focusing on Cases in Japan and the United States] 髙橋裕子 and 日本のフェミニズムが問われるもの――トランスフォビアの克服とトランス女性との連帯 [Japanese Feminism Called into Question: Overcoming Transphobia and Solidarity with Trans Women] 三橋順子
Thank you very much! Katzrockso (talk) 01:06, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, Katzrockso. I've requested the full issue, and will let you know when I hear back. --Usernameunique (talk) 01:12, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Katzrockso, this is in hand. The copy I have was bound together with 97, 99, and 100, so—while we're at it—anything you happen to be looking for in those, too? --Usernameunique (talk) 22:00, 11 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique thank you so much! Not that I can think of, while those issues do seem to be interesting, perhaps for articles like Women in Japan or Feminism in Japan, they aren't within the scope of what I plan to work on. Katzrockso (talk) 02:53, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique No rush if you're busy, just wondering if you had gotten this taken care of yet. Katzrockso (talk) 20:32, 21 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Katzrockso, I'm out of town for the next week or so, and wasn't able to scan this before I left. I'll take care of it when back. Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 14:46, 24 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Orchids magazine and Revista Guatemalensis articles, + Dutch book on extinct plants

For Archivea, a seemingly extremely rare monotypic orchid which, to the best of my knowledge, is known only from a single illustration. The first two are articles which I haven't been able to find online: I can only find citations to the article in Revista Guatemalensis, while the article in Orchids does seem to at least be available online to members of the American Orchid Society. The third source is a recent book that at least (according to Plants of the World Online) mentions Archivea, but I am not sure on which page(s) - any pages that mention it even briefly would be useful.

You reverted this edit and then stated on the talk page of the article that you did not know "what" Radha is.
Per the policy you have mentioned, "An editor who may wish to draw a wider range of informed, but uninvolved, editors to a discussion can place a message..."
I am asking these editors as for help so that I can use the exact sources they have provided because they are informed but not involved.

  • Rosen, Diana (1999). Chai: the Spice Tea of India. Pownal, Vermont: Storey.

For Masala Chai

I want to understand whether this paragraph in the History section is cited correctly or not.

The word for Tea in most Indian languages is “Chai” suggesting trade with inland China before British colonization. Tea however became a popular beverage introduced to India by the British. Tea plants have grown wild in the Assam region since antiquity, but historically, Indians viewed tea as an herbal medicine rather than as a recreational beverage.[8]

Thanks, Kingsacrificer (talk) 20:39, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I'm checking. Kingsacrificer (talk) 16:21, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've been searching for words like 'trade' and 'China' but I'm unable to be conclusive. Kingsacrificer (talk) 19:19, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsacrificer I was able to borrow this book on the Internet Archive. I didn't find anything that seems to support the claim "historically, Indians viewed tea as an herbal medicine rather than as a recreational beverage", but I also didn't read it thoroughly.
This might be the relevant part that the first sentence came from: In India, where its people speak many many languages, the generic word for tea is chai. It derives from the Chinese word for tea, cha, which the British turned into tav, which then evolved into tea: this is what the western world came to call the leaf of the Camellia sinensis plant. Today, both the Japanese and the Chinese say “cha” for tea, and the Indians say “chai.” (page 7) Katzrockso (talk) 03:10, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this @Katzrockso
So basically, my skepticism was warranted? The word 'chai' came from the Chinese word. This doesn't mean there was trade before colonisation. I think this is a good find. I'll remove the sentence from the article. Thanks again!
P.S. If you find that trade was mentioned in the later pages, please let me know. Kingsacrificer (talk) 08:18, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsacrificer I didn't find anything particular relevant about trade. Katzrockso (talk) 02:11, 14 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The book is organised by French department numbers. I'm not sure if it's volume 9 but it should presumably be under chapter 62, which is definitely called Pas-de-Calais. I came across this book and, judging by the author's description (Damien Somville), seems to be a very reliable source in describing the music of Swift's songs. Is there someone that could help me find the book's chapters for "ALBUM: Speak Now", its subchapters "Andrea Swift, Mom and Ally" and "Songwriting That Stands Out", and "ALBUM: Speak Now (Taylor's Version)"; even one of these chapters would be wonderful. This is so I could expand Speak Now (song) as well as If This Was a Movie.

The East Bengal Civil List

I need this for creating a list article for the 1st East Bengal Legislative Assembly and Amin ministry. Sending cabinet and assembly member's list by scanning related pages will do. It is a very rare document. It is available at some libraries in Dhaka, but the problem is some of those libraries don't give the document, some of those charge good amount of money to read and capture images of its pages. Also the libraries are far away from my home and I have no plan to go there in the near future. Google book says that University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has this. Could anyone please collect it? Any version before 1954 will do. Thanks.

@BorgQueen @Min968 But what we can do, aside of mentioning shadow libraries (in which I did not find the books in question, shrug) is to point such editors to the new Wikipedia:Resource support pilot. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:58, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Back flap of dust jacket for The Panda's Thumb

[edit]
  • Gould, Stephen Jay (1980). The Panda's Thumb (1 ed.). New York: Norton. ISBN 9780393013801.

For Stephen Jay Gould. Looking for a better scan of the image of him on the back flap (see [14]). Due to failures to comply with copyright formalities, the dust jacket's contents fell into the public domain. If you do have a book with the dust jacket (or have a better copy of the image), please upload it to Wikimedia Commons, as the scans I was able to find are pretty crumby (I hope this is a reasonable place to ask for this).

Two articles from Locus, #389 June 1993

[edit]

Accoring to ISFDb, this has two articles relevant to The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction that I'd like to use to expand our entry. These are:

  • page 9 • SF Encyclopedia Launch • essay by Christopher Fowler
  • page 27 and maybe 28? • Review: The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction by John Clute and Peter Nicholls • review by Gary K. Wolfe

And while we are at it, as a bonus I'll also take the review of book On Basilisk Station from page 33 of the same issue, to expand the relevant article as well.

(If Locus is available through any reasonable means - IA, TWPL, shadow libraries - do let me know...).

Thanks, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:39, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

An article from Science Fiction Chronicle, #165 August 1993

[edit]
  • Science Fiction Chronicle, #165 August 1993

According to ISFDb, Science Fiction Chronicle (that ironiclally, I even wrote our article about) from August 1993 (#165) has a review for another article I want to expand based on it (The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction):

  • page 38 •   Review: The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction by John Clute and Peter Nicholls • review by Don D'Ammassa

As usual, if you can tell me how to access SFC through any reasonable means (TWPL, IA, shadow libraries) I'd love to know.

An article from The New York Review of Science Fiction, September 1993

[edit]

ISFDb tells me that this publication had another review of The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction that I'd like to use to expand that article:

  • page 17, Review: The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction by John Clute and Peter Nicholls • review by David G. Hartwell

As usual, if you can tell me how to access this work through any reasonable means (TWPL, IA, shadow libraries) I'd love to know.

First Fruits

[edit]
  • First fruits, 1950-1956: Six Years of Accomplishments. Huntington Hartford Foundation. 1956. OCLC 12182232.
  • Six Years of Accomplishments. Huntington Hartford Foundation. 1956. OCLC 83877747.

Hey folks, this is a tough one. I'm working on a sandbox article for the Huntington Hartford Foundation. There's an important source from the Foundation that was published in 1956. It is more commonly known as First Fruits, and is held by major libraries under that name, but two of them have it under Six Years of Accomplishments so I included that alternate OCLC just in case. UCLA, Harvard, and NYPL all have copies. Thanks for any help. If you have access to the work, let me know as I have a few questions, mostly having to do with the history of the property and the names of all of the fellows, as they are very hard to find. There were supposedly 400 famous artists hosted by the Foundation, but the sources are almost non-existent. One of the reasons this is important to me is because while Huntington Hartford was a very flawed man and had some very strange, eccentric ideas, and caused a lot of problems in the art world at the time, there are recent sources that attribute some measure of historical interest to his indirect promotion of the concept of contemporary art over the term "modern" (he wasn't the first, but he helped contribute to this debate), and the idea that his art colony, for all its wasted money, produced some measure of success, results which have been lost to time and are left to others to discover. This is also a very California-oriented topic unique to that state's history, and there's a dearth of coverage about it. For comparison, we have Druid Heights in NoCal, Moy Mell in SLO, and Rustic Canyon, this topic, which has not been covered on Wikipedia in any depth. Thanks. Article by Denver Webb from Issue 31 of The Coelacanth (1993)

[edit]
  • Webb, Denver (1993). "Paul Xiniwe – Pioneer Black Businessman in the Cape Colony". The Coelacanth. 31 (2): 44-51. ISSN 0530-0231. OCLC 5878549875.

I'm currently working on Paul Xiniwe, and one of the references on the page cites this journal. I'm hoping that the full article will have more information on Xiniwe and his life that I can use in the article.

There's a couple journals named "The Coelacanth", but from context I'm assuming it's this one from Rhodes University in South Africa. Their online archives only have 3 issues, none of which are the one with Webb's article.

Does anyone know where I can find this article? I've tried looking in TWL, but it doesn't seem to have this particular journal (unless I'm missing something, as searching for "The Coelacanth" mostly brings up articles about the fish).

Thanks in advance. Tymewalk (talk) 02:34, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Added the ISSN and OCLC in case this helps anybody. YuniToumei (talk) 12:36, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
