Frequently asked questions Q1: Why is this article titled in lowercase, as opposed to Syrian Civil War (which redirects to this article)?
A1: Wikipedia policy on article titles is to use sentence case unless a preponderance of reliable sources treats the subject as a proper name. While this policy can lead to inconsistent titles (e.g. compare this article's title with Russian Civil War), community consensus (confirmed most recently here for this article) is that following the treatment by reliable sources takes precedence over in-Wikipedia title consistency. |

War Ended in March
[edit]The date of war end should be March 2025. DitorWiki (talk) 16:15, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I fully agree if it doesn't escalate again in the next couple months that that makes more sense, the Manbij Offensive was still ongoing into January 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:288D:CF81:D2AD:B828 (talk) 00:18, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Replacing the infobox's map
[edit]Given that the war is generally agreed to be over, with subsequent fighting being relegated to the Syrian conflict (2024–present) article, I think it might be a good idea to get rid of the real-time map featured in the infobox. It was mainly there to give information on the state of the war while it was ongoing, and since it's also on the Syrian confict's article, it can probably continue its mission there.
My preferred suggestion is a collage of photos akin to the articles for the First Libyan Civil War, the Lebanese Civil War, the Russian Civil War, the Chinese Civil War, the American Civil War, etc. Of course, not every civil war article has a collage, so a single photo can also do well. Game4brains (talk) 01:43, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
- I think a photo collage is a good idea, or we could use the map of the situation from 2020-2024 since the frontlines were frozen for that period. Holden3172 (talk) 20:51, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Keep any map only for Syrian conflict (2024–present). But for Syrian civil war, I agree that it would be a good idea to have a collage of photos, that's just a much better presentation aesthetically. AHI-3000 (talk) 17:34, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that a collage of photos would be preferable to the map now the war is agreed to be over. GothicGolem29 (Talk) 17:51, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
Is this conflict over for the U.S.?
[edit]I know the U.S. at least has a base in Al-Tanf, but is the conflict still ongoing? The main Syrian civil war article says the war is over? Is it still going for the U.S. somehow, in the US intervention in the Syrian civil war? Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:34, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- If we consider the war to be over, I think this could be compared to US-led intervention in Iraq (2014–2021), which covers both the War in Iraq (2013–2017), and the Islamic State insurgency in Iraq until the eventual withdrawal. With that in mind, I think that page could be reasonably moved to just "US intervention in Syria" or "US-led intervention in Syria". Hsnkn (talk) 21:55, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
The war duration should be changed to "ongoing"
[edit]Because it claims the fall of Bashar's govt is the ending factor, yet many things have happened in the war that would've "ended" it sooner SouthAfrica993 (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
The map is no longer relevant; a collage should take its place
[edit]With the civil war pretty much over and with barely any territorial changes happening since summer of this year (or even earlier), there's no need to show territorial control for this article (though maybe there should still be one for the "Syrian Conflict" map). A collage would be more appropriate as it would offer images that are both more relevant yet offer more insight as to the nature of the conflict. QuisEstJoe (talk) 02:02, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:COLLAGE, a collage is only appropriate
where overlapping or similar careful placement of component images is necessary to illustrate a point in an encyclopedic way
. Cinderella157 (talk) 01:50, 16 November 2025 (UTC)- Okay maybe not a collage, but maybe an image/video of a key moment of the civil war. Either one is better than a map which currently neither gives any useful insight as to the nature of the conflict nor shows any significant moment that represents or defines the conflict. QuisEstJoe (talk) 03:40, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, Syrian conflict (2024–present) now has the exact same map, so it's redundant. A photo collage would be much better for Syrian civil war in aesthetics and presentation. AHI-3000 (talk) 21:10, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
